Regardless if you are a fan of his or not, its always bad to see another company leaving and the possibilty of one less car on tour.

No matter how you look at it, it's no good. The worst part is, once they're gone, they are going to be very hard to replace. The pool of potential sponsors who can afford this level of program is very shallow.

I don't think that Cruz's stupid actions had anything to do with him losing a sponsor but Karma sure got him! I know quite a few people who called and emailed Advanced Auto Parts and said as long as they were backing Cruz Pederegon they would not buy parts from them so if enough people did it, it might have played a part in the decision. I never like to see anybody lose a sponsor but I also don't feel bad for the guy. Flame away!!

He has a nostalgia car. He won't be "gone"

He sure does...

Cruz qualified #7 at the recent California Hot Rod Reunion with a 5.964 ET at an event top speed of 247.72 mph, tuned by Donnie Couch.

Anyone that would attemp to hurt any dragracers sponsorship like that is definitley not a true drag racing fan. Obviously, there are a lot of sorry people in this world.
We need all types of racers to make this sport work. I can name quite a few dragracers that I dislike (I don't hate anyone) but I would never, ever dream of trying to hurt their relationships with their sponsors and can't imagine what type of person someone would have to be to do something like that.
As for Advanced, everytime I go into the local store they have a completely different crew. It seems that no one likes working for them. Maybe karma is a ***** and Advanced is just getting ready to close the doors.

Not a big Cruz fan, but still hate to see a sponsor leave the sport. The places I shop for auto parts has shrunk by one....I will not patronize the Advance Auto parts stores in Wichita anymore. Looks like Napa and ORielly auto will get my money from now on (we have no Napa's here anymore but we do shop at them when we travel to tracks/cities that have them.)

well I think it's time to realize that 300mph fuel racing is pricing itself out of existence. there's no need to go that fast to put on a great nitro show. NHRA's continued resistance to redesigning these cars , going back to 1320, and controlling costs is killing the sport. I hope AHRA has a show in Florida, I'll go there before I watch 1000' nitro again.

every other form of motorsport has had to realize that the performance and cost levels they once attained are not sustainable over the long term.

indy car racing - you'll never see a 240mph lap again

nascar - forget ever seeing 212 mph at daytona again

for two examples.

nascar limited performance and costs and look at them. no harm done in fact just the opposite.

there's no reason not to have 250 mph fuel cars running a 1/4 mile, not oiling down the track, and putting on consistent shows that could be shown on tv live. and who cars if a/fuel cars run that fast. the nationwide cars run as fast as the sprint cars at daytona and no one cares.

until they do that, more sponsors will leave and I just don't know why they don't get it. it's too expensive, dangerous, and much faster than it needs to be.

it's a show isn't it? they still run it like a club.

just my opinion from the stands.

cruz and his attitude and constant crying was not a great repersentation for the company. hey cruz the karma train just arrived at the station- all aboard!!!!! :D

Jeff,

I totally agree with you. I'm in the business of marketing and sponsorships (Radio station owner/manager) and my guess is that Advance wasn't impressed with their meltdown and accussations towards John Force. That was a terrible representation for Advance. When you're sponsored you are then an ambassador for your sponsor. I'd say they were fired by Advance for poor and unprofessional ambassadorship.

On a related note, I met (personally introduced to) Cruz at the Applebee's in Topeka and found him to be an arrogant schmuck.

I buy my parts at O'Reilly and will continue to do so.

Well Said!

Not matter what peoples opinions are of Cruz (I happen to like the guy) it sucks that Advance pulled the plug. They were with him since `01, and I suppose that`s a lot longer than most sponsors hang around. With two championships under his belt, he`s got a pretty impressive track record. Hopefully he lands some $$ for next year.

It is a shame people have no class and would try to get a company to drop sponsorship of a team. If I was like your friends, I should have e-mailed some people within BP and ask for their view on the Castrol brand throwing a race to a AAA car and ask them their view on how BP's code of conduct (a Castrol car manipulated the outcome of a race) relates to this incident since John represents a BP brand. The final round at the biggest race of the year could have been an all Castrol and father/daughter battle, but Castrol never had a chance for this. You know what, I didn't send an e-mail because nothing good could have come out of that.
