LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept 30, 2008) -- If the tiniest technical edge is what successful race teams need to win, then Valvoline is coming up BIG in the current NASCAR and NHRA championships. Through Sept. 28th, Valvoline's NASCAR and NHRA sponsored teams have combined to score 51 victories this season.

The NHRA Valvoline teams have claimed 29 wins while the NASCAR Valvoline teams (Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Craftsman Truck) have won 22 times.

Valvoline drivers are also on top of the current point standings -- Johnny Benson leads in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series as does Tony Schumacher in NHRA Top Fuel and Tim Wilkerson in NHRA Funny Car. Carl Edwards is second in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, only 10 points out of first with seven races remaining.

“For years Valvoline has put its technical resources to work for top teams,” said John Stotz, director of brand marketing for the Valvoline division of Ashland Inc. “We use our racing involvement to market our products to consumers who also are race fans and we use the race track as a laboratory to make our products better. The success our teams are having on the track this season has energized those who work in the Valvoline
Technology Group.”

Team Valvoline has claimed 11 victories in Sprint Cup competition, six in the Nationwide Series and five in Craftsman Truck competition.

Edwards leads Team Valvoline in the Sprint Cup Series with six victories. He is followed by Kasey Kahne with three wins (including All-Star event) and Greg Biffle with two.

Valvoline's six NASCAR Nationwide victories were won by Edwards (five) and Matt Kenseth (one).

Benson's four wins and Erik Darnell's one win lead Team Valvoline in the Craftsman Truck Series.

"Valvoline is a product that we're proud to use at Roush Fenway Racing both on and off the track," said team owner Jack Roush. "It has been a part of our success over the years and will continue to be a product we rely upon for victories to come."

Schumacher leads Team Valvoline's win attack on the NHRA side with a record 13 season victories in the Top Fuel dragster division. The five-time NHRA champion also became the all-time Top Fuel career leader with 54 wins, passing former Valvoline driver and drag-racing legend Joe Amato.

The Valvoline NHRA roster of wins also includes Top Fuel drivers Antron Brown (2), Cory McClenathan (1) and Rod Fuller (1). In the popular Funny Car category Team Valvoline wins have been scored by Wilkerson (6) and Jack Beckman (3).

Ron Krisher (Pro Stock), Chip Ellis (Pro Stock Motorcycle) and Craig Treble (Pro Stock Motorcycle) have one win each for Team Valvoline.

"Our association with Valvoline is more than a product endorsement -- we can actually vouch for its performance-enhancing qualities," said NHRA team owner Don Schumacher. "We at Don Schumacher Racing have used Valvoline products for a number of racing seasons, and, based on the reports back from the crew chiefs, all the products work extremely efficiently in all the team racing vehicles."

Valvoline's technical partners in NASCAR include: Roush Fenway Racing, Gillett Evernham Motorsports, Yates Racing, Robby Gordon Racing and Bill Davis Racing. Valvoline's NHRA partners include: Don Schumacher Racing, David Powers Motorsports, Tim Wilkerson Racing, Vandergriff Racing and Ron Krisher Racing.
