thank god! Now i can sleep:) i knew the answer had something to do with Jimmah! Was that when joe was having the eye problems that walsh tested the car for him?

This happened in 96, before Joe had his eye problems. Bill tested for Joe a lot in the mid-late 90's, and even ran a 2nd team car to Joe a couple times.

You know... I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, but I'll be dammed if I don't have a bunch of useless drag racing trivia stored upstairs. :o

True, but if NHRA thinks the cars are going too fast again, you may see rev limiters kicking in at 800 ft or something.

On a good pass, rev limiters are already armed at 800 feet. They are armed 3.0 seconds into a run, which is about half track. They don't activate untill the engine reaches 8,250 RPM. The only way to do it would be to lower the RPM settings.

Nope foeget I said that, Tim left not long after Ludicrous Speed... Prock and Cory Mac?

Tim Richards and Joe split after WINNING Brainerd in 92.
Joe ran with a Jim Brisette tune up (who was with Herbert at the time) to finish the year out, and win the title.

Jeff Rogers and Larry Meyer tuned Joe's car in 1993.
Cory Mac parked his family ride at the end of 93, and went to drive for Larry Minor, and Prock went to Amato for 94.

Is Bill Related to Joe? Life Been Good To Me So Far, oh Jedi Master...

I'm going to bed now

No, but he is brothers with Jimmy Wash, crew chief for Morgan Lucas.

Why did they split , I have wondered that because they were together for a long time.

Why do couples Divorce after years of marriage?
People out grow each other, they goals change... maybe you just can't stand someone's girlfriend or wife... gezz, this is racing, just like every other part of life... people do what is best for themselves...

This is Business it ain't marriage

Bill Walsh ran as an Amato team car in TAD after Amato went fuel racing, At the time Richards was supplying turn key alcohol motors for a handful of Alky racers including Manzo who was also a team car. Amato racing was a family affair his wife Gerry and Joe Rivello, Amato's father in law coming to every race, After a bunch of championships however the team chemistry changed, From what was rumored to be disagreements with other team members regarding their personal lives, Splits, And even the divorce of Gerry and Joe Amato. I feel a special sadness when I see those old Youtube videos of Amato at the end of the track climbing out of his car joking about his snoopy good luck underwear, And Gerry rushing to hug him. Her dad Joe close behind, Richards smiling that special crooked grin. Even today you don't see any of that, Its all big business and no longer family. When racers and crew have limited success they do it for Fun, You hear that almost to a person throughout racing. As success and big corporate sponsorship dollars start to flow its no longer "fun" but "big business", with big business comes big expectations, and pressure, and stress. Hardships lead to finger pointing, firings, Arguments, Intolerance. Crew chiefs, drivers and crew members are traded like marbles, pawns or trading cards. It has become impersonal. And who's to blame? well no one really, When you want growth you have to remind yourself be careful what you wish for. No longer are there top fuel or professional teams doing an entire tour with volunteer crews who have full time jobs and do it for the love and fun alone. You have crews who depend on it to put food on their family's table. and thats serious business, No more joking around, no more fun in the pits, if you fail you may be on unemployment. You have (some) team members that allegedly cant stand each other. for them they may as well wear a shirt that says "my job sucks" instead of a team shirt.

What does my rant have to do with 323 miles an hour? well absolutely nothing, Just when I saw Amato posted I was reminded of how family oriented professional racing once was. And will never be again.

What I wonder is how fast are the NHRA going to allow them to go?
They shorten the racing distance 320ft to 1000ft, which gives them 320ft more braking which is great, however they are now going just as fast to 1000ft as they were to 1320ft.
Parts usage now is probably back to where is was 12 months ago. Teams have just shortened the wick 320ft.
There has to be a point where a call is made to make some drastic changes to these cars to slow the ET & speeds.

Parts usage is NOT what it was at 1320! The Motors aren't at RPM for 4.5 seconds like they were, the Oil temps aren't as high, etc... Every Crew member I've talked to says 1000' has saved a Ton of $$$!

I think the discussion is mute, because the splits on the E.T. slips don't jive.

On same weekend...

Tony Shoe's 318.39mph pass had a 330-660ft split time of (.901), then the 660-1000ft split was (.757).

Brandon B.'s 323.50mph pass had a 330-660ft split tiime of .(904), then the 660-1000ft split was (.755).

It doesn't add up.

Hmm, I'm no mathematician, but those numbers just don't look right.
Would a quicker 660ft-1000ft split of .002 add another 5mph to the speed?

How long are the speed traps for 1000 foot racing?

323.5 mph = 474.466667 feet per second
318.39 mph = 466.97200 feet per second

I think I dud dun dis wrong? assuming a 30 foot speed trap?

?????? 30 / 474.466667 = 0.0632288885 ????????????
?????? 30 / 466.97200 = 0.0642436806 ?????????????

If that is correct, and you subtract that from the last .755 to arrive at the mph start beam.. Does that look realistic?

I'm pretty confident the speed trap is still 66 feet.

correct, I had thought they shortened it for the new 1000 foot interval

Inside the NHRA: Glossary of drag racing terms

66 / 474.466667 = 0.139103555
.755 - 0.1391035550 = 0.615896445
for the 660 to 934 foot split

66 / 466.97200 = 0.141336097
.757 - 0.141336097 = 0.615663903
for the 660 to 934 foot split

0.615896445 - 0.615663903 = 0.000232542

which tells me with the exception of 0.000232542 of a second gained over 274 feet, the five mph or 0.001767458 of a sec were made up in the last 66 feet??? Is my math right????

This reminds me of the UK fastest jet car FC speed ever argument I had over 5 years ago.
