2011 ESPY's 2 NHRA Nominees

2011 ESPYS - July 2011 ESPNHD

Vote for John Force or Greg Anderson. Franchiti and Jimmie should not win this one.

Of the few votes the NHRA fans contribute, they will be split between these two drivers instead of just one, and JJ will walk away with award because of all the NASCAR fan votes. :(

Now, I have a real question about how drivers get nominated. I can see Force getting nominated, because he is John Force. But how did Greg Anderson get the nomination over someone like, for instance, Larry Dixon? With 12 wins in 12 final rounds and a T/F championship, how could Dixon not be nominated? Nothing against Greg Anderson, just an example for my question.

I'm not looking for speculation or a flaming here. I really want to know if anyone here knows the answer to this.

Steve, I am guessing it is because both John and Greg battled through adversity to claim their titles. John was fighting for a title for the first time since his crash that nearly killed him and Greg won during a year where his owner was battling the side effects of a stroke and his house burnt down earlier in the year. I agree with you, Larry should have the nomination over Greg but there's no story there like Greg's story.

We made this ad as we have made them each year and provided it to the NHRA in different sizes to fit their format. Unfortunately they haven't been used by NHRA.com or anyone else. Anyone who wants to help us rally support for DRAG RACING is free to right click and use on their sites.

I don't see why the NHRA touts this accomplishment and yet when promotion time starts -- sits around.

My guess why NHRA isn't interested is that there's no $ in it for the organization.

Holy Nostradamous!

Jimmie did win exactly for that reason, the truth was John had a great year period end of story, so what does ESPN do, put 2 NHRA guys on to try to split the voting amongst Drag Racing fans so NASCAR is king as always.

Voting on sports is........

....'kinda silly and flies in the face of what sports is about : settling things on the field play.

I mean, In the "Most Outstanding Record Award" UCONN Women Basketball team goes 3 years without a loss (surpassing the UCLA men's record) and the prize goes to the young Irish fellow who won one (was it The Masters or the US OPen) tournament. I mean, he had a GREAT weekend but.....wins and losses are "real" -- awards are just opinions.

i agree with you jim, but unless you pay attention to sports the UCONN record
falls on deaf ear while the rory m. story (first his loss at augusta, then his
triumph @ us open) was front page news on tv and online.
all that in the absence of tiger woods....people want feel good golf stories,
they do not want feel good NCAA women's basketball stories.
sorry if you're a women's hoop fan; you're in small minority.

kinda' sounds like the nhra vs. nascar doesn't it ;)

I hear you MIke.

I'm not a fan of Golf (except for the views at Pebble Beach). I'm not a fan of soccer either but, (I think South Caraolina's) team had some unbelievable streak of NCAA Championships some years ago but, I woulda felt such sustained excellence was more worthy that one redemptive weekend.

PS: Yes, I am a big fan of UCONN Women's basketball and realize MOST folks couldn't give a fig.
