You might as well put Al-Anabi in for TF even though we still don't know who the driver is. Herbert is planning to run at least a PT schedule last I heard, but nothing is for sure yet. Foley is likely out this season, but he has enough equipment to run a full year should someone step up with a little $$.

Honda pulling out of F1 is bad but if they took a small fraction of those resources and moved into drag racing I think they'd see a great return on investment. In the current economy marketing and R&D is still necessary. They could move into NHRA Competition eliminator, Super Stock eliminator and provide bodies for Funny Car/Top Alcohol Funny Car and become the official vehicle of NHRA while lobbying to be allowed in Pro Stock. They should also do the same thing in Europe and Australia. They keep their brand out there and drag racing fan access will allow marketing that will allow them to increase sales. Honda makes a large amount of their cars in America with American labor (a lot of Japanese of a certain age think Honda cars are American. Accords sold here prior to '98 were built in the states and had big Honda of America badges on them). Hopefully the minute this news hit someone at NHRA was on the phone to Honda, and not doing the usual short selling of NHRA.

P.S. Honda Ridgelines, Toyota Tundras don't exist here in Japan, unless some rich guy imports one.

having gone round and round with Honda, they have no interest in drag racing no matter what you toss at them. They love open wheel because it attracts the market they want to sell cars to.

Well now seems like an opportune time to re-engage, because they've just given up on their long love affair with Formula 1.

the main problem with that is Honda of Japan and Honda of American make two different decisions. There has been guys running Honda's for years and get no support. There is even a team of Honda employees that run a RWD Honda Civic in Comp Eliminator and they get nothing from Honda other than some free parts here and there, the majority of the team is run out of their pockets. I know guys that run in SCCA and they get free engines, free cars, etc. If there was a way to get Honda into drag racing, someone would have done it by now based upon the number of us that have tried.

I understand your frustration, but now seems like a good time to try anonther tilt at the wind mil. I mean what's the worse they and say? No?

you have to understand Honda culture and how things work in corporate. Honda leaving F1 doesn't equal more money for the US racing budget. They run things very seperate and one doesn't not equal something else. If you read the F1 press release, the Honda F1 team was getting engines from Honda Racing Development, which is a different company and run that way. The place to start to get money is HRD but those guys want nothing to do with drag racing. Honda corporate doesn't because it doesn't fit their corporate image. The marketing department won't support drag racing because it doesn't fit how they want to market the Honda brand and the cars under that brand. You can get some engines here and there from HRD, maybe marketing will approve a car or a body but that is it there is no money to be had and there is no engineering that is ever offered.

Sometimes you have to have to stop banging your head against a wall because all you are doing is getting a headache. Those of us that are well connected with Honda have a lot of headaches.

On the Honda subject... I heard that Honda has dismantled all R&D spending and budgeting that is not strictly for fuel mileage improvement from an engineer in R&D at Honda. Therefore, no more Honda spending money on racing.

Luigi Novelli will be return in 2009 with NationalMachineRepair.com. as his sponsor. Luigi is owner & operator and they do punch press repair & rebulding.

Not to hijack, but CBS Evening News tonight has a special report on how corporate pullouts by sponsors in NASCAR are putting up to half the Sprint Cup teams on the trailer next season..
