11,000 HP

The new estimate on horse power of a modern top fuel engine has gone up to 11,000 HP. That number was calculated by Mike Green of DSR. He used a torque meter between the clutch and the rear end. Insanity.

At what point, if ever, do the fuel cars totally lock-up the clutch and go 1-to-1? In other words, how long out of a solid, mid 3.70 pass do they actually use all the horsepower?

Dragsters - 2.4 to 2.7 secs Funny Cars 2.6 to 3.0 secs But I know a funny car that ran 3.95 and the clutch never locked up. Driveshaft got to within 100 rpm of motor but no closer.

Come to Nitro School on Saturday at any national event and you will learn things like this. In Atlanta, Tim Wilkerson is my c0-professor and in Topeka, it will be Jim-O, I promise, whether you are a new fan or a veteran you will learn something.

And the Horsepower curve on a nitro car is just that, a curve, the engines are in constant adjustment, fuel, timing. clutch load, etc....

Is that the deal you did with Zizzo at Indy last year? I thought it was on Friday, though, but I can't remember. Anyway, it was really cool and the folks I took with me loved it.

I attended class in Dallas when you had Robert Hight assisting, it was fantastic. They should definitely be filmed. I'd rather watch that on FOX Friday night's than a few rounds of opening qualifying. Or perhaps air it on the NHRA All Access Streaming.

Yes, that's the School. It has evolved a bit and we are getting many more of the teams involved.

It seems that recently (last 3-4 months) the NHRA has spent a good deal of time providing more content on their website. I think it's the best it's ever been.

It would be cool if they could archive these, even if it's an in house produced thing with one stationary camera. I think it would give current fans a deeper look at some things, as well as be a nice tutorial to new fans.
