The big red Ford takes me back to Bob Glidden during his dominance, '87 T-Bird was my fave. If I read that article correct, there are no new engine parts for now, just new cars? If so, I can't see that making the difference to crack the bump, but if there are new engine parts, that might do the trick. Personally, I'm more interested in Larry Morgan's effort over Cunningham. I'd be REALLY interested if Glidden was involved with Morgan, but that could be my own thoughts getting mixed with reality. I know Jim deserves A LOT of credit for getting people, and Ford interested again, but to me a Ford Pro Stock effort without a Glidden is like a PB&J without Peanut Butter.
I'm with ya John. Larry's Mopar program was awesome in the beginning..but faltered at the end. I wsih better luck this time around. Those Glidden memories are golden. It was fun watching him dominate the class.
Without new competitive motors I don't see a benefit from qualifying at the bottom of the class at Indy. With regards to Larry Morgan, I'm not sure he'll be the answer they'd like. I'm a Mopar man, and a fan of Larry, but he frankly has not been able to build a consistently competitive Mopar HEMI. If you'll recall, Larry and David Nickens actually designed the blocks and heads for their initial castings and approval. After over 10 years of R&D on the combination he's a middle to back-of-the-pack qualifier...when he makes the show. He lost V. Gaines and Kenny Koretsky as motor customers due to a lack of consistent power. I wish Larry and the Ford program well, but it's a steep mountain and a long climb...to say the least.
