1/8th mile (3 Viewers)

Being the owner of an NHRA Heritage Series Nostalgia Funny Car here in the midwest we find a welcome alternative to the NHRA with the IHRA as we simply fitted a canopy and wings and ran the car as a (different looking) Fuel Altered at their last race. And there were 10 of us AA/FA's that showed up. Being a hardcore racer it does not matter to us what track length we run on, and I would think that most Nitro Racers feel that same way and I would hazard to guess that very few would as be so smug to stay home and not run their car. Or any Serious Racer for that matter.

@Eric Strandberg
I love that apparently you have that same love for that ole "run wutcha brung" mentality I learned about in the corn & tater fields of Michigan LOL!
I don't understand the negativity towards doing something fun. People rag on the very things they say they love? For why?
It's a drag race, you know the things that people have tried to cheat at forever (doing many shady things in the dark undefined areas of night!)and all are looking for ANY edge? Object is to WIN.
Most of what I've watched or recorded has been 1320 including some of the Greatest to do it. Match race or grudge, exhibition or I betcha twenny - it's a bet to get there the quickest and grab your cash...

Like it or hate it, it ain't going anywhere if people attend.
Bobby's the man, as usual - much credit and respect.

If the eighth-mile is the competitive reset, shortened events are the operational reset. The IHRA intends to compress weekends into two days and deliver more action, not more hours.

there is a thread on this already and it isn't going well for the IHRA.
how do you figure it isn't working for them? did you go to or watch the final race at the track formerly known as Galot? I was there. car count was the biggest of the year and had plenty of spectators! and the output from racers was pretty good. I was racing in alky funny car and several of the drivers said they will be focusing on racing IHRA in 2026

The question was the switch to 1/8 mile, most responses were negative. I went to both events at National Trail, I enjoyed both, I can walk to the track from home. I will be at all future events supporting them.

and my response was about 1/8 mile. when you say most responses were negative, from who? racers or spectators? the finals were 1/8 mile and was a packed house with plenty of positive response to the format

so 4 or 5 people.. maybe IHRA should just shut down. . Do you race?
why are you wanting to turn this into a huge debate ? I simply said in the thread on here the replies were negative. I did not say the US said it was negative, I did not say it was negative. I did not say they should shut down.
I have said I have been to their events and have enjoyed them. Yes I started racing in 1979 1/4 mile , no longer race but do a few track rentals a year 1/8 mile with some friends and play.
Just a has been.
