For Rodger Brogdon and the EDGE Pain & Performance Chips team that’s the prevailing thought going into the Auto Plus Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway this weekend.
After bowing out in round 1 at Dallas for the second race in a row last weekend, the team is anxious yet apprehensive to get back after it for the 3rd race in NHRA’s 6event Countdown to the Championship that will determine the 2011 Full Throttle champions.
“We can’t buy a round win right now, yet the same equipment and same tune-up is going rounds every race in Steve’s Charter Communications car,” commented Brogdon. “And God bless Steve Kent, he’s been having a blast! He’s gone to the semi-finals at both Charlotte & Dallas, and driven his tail off doing it. If the EDGE Pontiac had performed like Steve’s car these last two races we’d really be giving the rest of the field a run for the money championship, and that’s the frustrating part. We should be matching Steve’s performance step for step.”
“We’ve got four races left to turn things around and fortunately the way eliminations have gone at Charlotte and Dallas we still have a shot to make a strong finish. Jason (Line) is the only one that’s really been able to take advantage of the way the last two race days have gone, so it’s still up to the rest of us to fight it out for the for the rest of the championship spots, and we certainly have a car AND crew that’s capable of going rounds and claiming points these next four events. We just need to break out the 4 leaf clovers and lucky rabbit’s foot and see if we can’t get this monkey off our back.”
“The EDGE Pain & Performance Chips Pontiac ran well at Maple Grove last year, and with the forecast for cool, fall air again this weekend, it’s going to take all the horsepower Cagnazzi’s guys can give us to get it done. Who knows, we made need ALL their horsepower to hold onto the national record, Maple Grove can be that fast if the conditions are right, we’ll just have to see what happens. I do know we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got, starting with the first round of qualifying.”
Qualifying for the Auto Plus Nationals will take place Friday at 2:00 and 5:00 pm. Final qualifying on Saturday will be 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, with final eliminations beginning at 11:00 am Sunday.
