PHOENIX (Feb. 17) -- Larry Morgan's performance in Southern California at last weekend's 50th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals turned more than a few heads. His semifinal run in the Pro Stock class of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series behind the wheel of his brand new Lucas Oil Ford Mustang has fans of the blue oval, employees at Lucas Oil, and the folks at Ford Motor Company absolutely buzzing with excitement. "Jamie Allison (director of Ford North America) is so excited he's coming to Phoenix," Morgan said. "It was about the best start I could have had. Just very, very good for everyone involved, from Lucas Oil to Ford to my guys at the track and back at the shop. "We're barely scratching the surface here...
[coverattach=1]Chandler, Az. – Last week’s NHRA National event in Pomona, Calif. was a productive weekend for 23-year old Pro Stock driver, Danny Gruninger and his USRECOGNITION.COM Pro Stock Dodge team. And momentum established at the season opening event should catapult the Denver, Colo. based team to a race day start at this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals, held at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Az. “Our goal is firm; to race on Sunday this weekend in Phoenix,” noted the highly competitive athlete Gruninger, who competed in (4) Little League World Series and was a Colorado high school state golf champion. “We made some significant improvements to our Pro Stock program last weekend in Pomona; decreasing our career...
CHANDLER, Ariz., February 17, 2010 – With back-to-back races to kick off the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season, race teams have a chance to redeem themselves if they turned in a less-than-desired performance at the season-opening Winternationals at Pomona last weekend. Such is the case with Funny Car veteran Paul Lee and the Jim Dunn Racing team as they prepare for this weekend’s 26th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway just south of Phoenix. Despite missing the 16-car field at Pomona, Lee, a first-year driver of the CANIDAE Pet Foods/Lucas Oil/WileyX Chevy, is confident the team can shake off the cobwebs and turn in a solid performance at Firebird. “(Pomona) was just one of those weekends...
PHOENIX (Feb. 17) -- A successful drag racing season is often measured with small steps and small victories that take place along the way during the 10-month-long season. Heading into this weekend's 26th annual Arizona NHRA Nationals, Shawn Langdon, sophomore driver of the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster Top Fuel dragster, has been happy with his progress so far, even there's just been one race to date. Langdon made it to the quarterfinal round of last weekend's season-opening 50th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals, and he said he left historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona with a positive feeling about his John Stewart-led group. "We have the capabilities to run with anyone and at the same time we don't want to beat...

Between 20 and 26 of these evil front-engine Top Fuel dragsters will converge on the "promised land" of nostalgia drag racing, world-famous Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., Mar. 5-7 for the 52nd running of one of drag racing's best-known, most historic events: the one, the only March Meet! They're coming from all corners of the nation. From the East: "Mr. Boston" with Tom Steed, "Nitrodiction" with Howard Haight and Bob Bradley with Lincoln Hassel. From the West: '09 champs Neil & White, the new "super team" of "Bad Brad"...

Pomona, Calif. – Tony Bartone, the 31-time NHRA National Event champion, drove the Rick Jackson Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car to a semi-final finish this past weekend at the 50th Kragen O’Reilly NHRA Winternationals contested in Pomona, Calif. The Centre Pointe Collision Center / FireIce.com flopper captured the number one qualified position after their off-the-trailer 5.570 second elapsed time. The pole position matched them against number 16 qualifier, Brian Smith from Fullerton, Calif. in the opening stanza. Smith captured a slight starting line advantage over the Long Island City, N.Y. based driver, but the Steve Boggs tuned Mustang caught Smith by the 330 foot cones and sped along for the round one victory. The 5.556 second...
[coverattach=1]CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 17, 2010) - With his first NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series national event as a non-rookie under his belt, Matt Hagan is ready to attack this weekend's 26th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals, driving the new DieHard Dodge Charger Funny Car. "I can't really believe the first race is already over," said the 27-year-old Angus Cattle farmer from Christiansburg, Va., who was barely two years old when this event was first held at Firebird Int'l Raceway. "The anticipation and the build-up of beginning this season in Pomona, Calif., last weekend after my rookie year in 2009 is gone now and we're on full throttle for the 2010 season. The off-season rust has worn off, and it's nice to be able to go right...
