“We felt like we had a good handle on the Kalitta Air Careers car at the end of last season, and we were able to start this season in good form ready to contend. We tried to get the ball rolling from the first race and then keep the momentum going. The goal, at the end of the day, is to have the Kalitta cars one-two in points when the regular season ends so hopefully, we can keep that going.
“At the end of the day, everything counts, and everything matters. Last year, we had a really good car and a great shot at the championship, but what separated our car from Doug’s car was that they capitalized a lot on the little points from qualifying sessions and the Mission Foods Challenge. Capitalizing on those little points was a big thing for Brian (Crew Chief Brian Husen) in the off season.
“This sport is so much momentum based. When things are good, you stay focused, keep your head down, work hard and ride the wave. We’re on a pretty good run, and the car’s been good. The good thing about Team Kalitta is they’re never content. They always push to make the cars even better; that’s the focus right now because we all know, one day you’re on top, but the next day you can be on the bottom. We’re just trying to ride the wave, enjoy it and keep trying to progress.
“It would be nice to get to Seattle and get another win. We’re just looking forward to the last few races before the countdown starts. You really just show up and do the same things we do each race because the mindset doesn’t change because of last year’s results. You have the same mindset as always – do everything you can to try to win the race.”

- Shawn Langdon enters the Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals in first place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings; he leads his teammate, Doug Kalitta, by 85 points with three races remaining in the regular season. Team Kalitta has been one-two in points since the second race of the season.
- Langdon is the NHRA Northwest Nationals defending champion; he captured his first Seattle win last year after recording his third runner-up finish in 2024. He has one win, three runners up and one No.1 qualifier at this event.
- Langdon has four wins on the season including three-consecutive wins at Valdosta, Ga., Joliet, Ill., and Budds Creek, Md. With Kalitta’s wins in Charlotte and Sonoma, Calif., the Team Kalitta dragsters won six of the season’s 11 races and competed in 41 of the 43 rounds of racing. Langdon has four wins, three runners-up and two semifinal showings along with five No. 1 qualifiers this season.
- Langdon won his fourth Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge of the season last weekend in Sonoma, Calif. He and Kalitta both have four wins in the Saturday event. The Mission Foods Challenge will be contested only three more times this season, and Langdon trails Kalitta by one point in the battle for the Mission Foods Challenge season championship.
- Langdon owns the two fastest runs in NHRA history. At the Southern Nationals in Georgia in May, he recorded speeds of 345.00 mph and 344.91 mph.
- Langdon is the 2013 NHRA Top Fuel Champion and has 26 wins in his career.
