Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time): 7-10 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 on FS1
Qualifying: Shawn Langdon was the No. 9 qualifier at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. Langdon made his best qualifying attempt during the Friday-evening session when he made a 3.852-second pass at 328.54 mph. This run was also the weather-delayed final round from last week’s race in Epping, N.H. Langdon took a three-race win streak into that final round, but the win streak ended at three when Leah Pruett won the race.
Eliminations: Despite throttle-related mechanical issues immediately prior to the first and second rounds, Langdon defeated Jasmine Salinas, Leah Pruett and Tony Stewart to reach his seventh final round in the season’s first nine races and the 61st of his career. Langdon and Antron Brown put on quite a show in the final round. The cars left together and were close all the way to the finish line, but Brown was a touch quicker and won an excellent race, 3.788 seconds at 331.61 mph to Langdon’s 3.801 at 334.07 mph. The margin of victory was .0165 seconds.
Unofficial Point Standings: Langdon leaves Bristol in first place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He leads his teammate, Doug Kalitta, by 114 points.
Langdon on Bristol: “It was a good day all considering. We struggled and got a little behind in qualifying. Coming into race day today, we just had some crazy circumstances in the first couple rounds. We just really had to grind it out as a team today – grinded it out as a team all weekend. We weren’t able to get the win on Friday (in the Epping, N.H. final round), so we managed two runner-up finishes this weekend. The Kalitta Air Careers team is still on a good run; the car’s still good; it just wasn’t an easy day for sure.”
