Pre-Race Notes:

  • Shawn Langdon enters the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in first place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings, and his teammate, Doug Kalitta, is second, 100 points behind. Team Kalitta has been one-two in points since the second race of the season.
  • Langdon advanced to the final round in New Hampshire on Sunday, but rain forced NHRA to postpone the final round until the second round of qualifying this weekend. Langdon will race Leah Pruett in the NHRA New England Nationals final at Bristol Dragway.
  • Prior to last weekend’s race, Langdon had won the last three races and had four wins on the season. With Kalitta’s Charlotte win, the Team Kalitta dragsters won five of the season’s seven races before Epping, and counting the final round Langdon will run on Friday in Bristol, will have competed in 31 of the 32 rounds of racing this season. Langdon has four wins, a runner-up and a semifinal showing along with four No. 1 qualifiers.
  • Langdon is the first Top Fuel driver to win three-straight races since Steve Torrence in 2021. Should Langdon win his fourth-consecutive race in the Epping final round on Friday, he would be the first since Torrence did it in 2019. Tony Schumacher (2008), Cory McClenathan (1997) and Scott Kalitta (1994) also won four-straight Top Fuel races.
  • If Langdon wins the Epping final round Friday night, he would have four consecutive wins for the first time since 2019 and would be going for five straight in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals on Sunday; he would be the first with five straight since Torrence did it in 2019.
  • Langdon owns the two fastest runs in NHRA history. At the Southern Nationals in Georgia earlier this month, he recorded speeds of 345.00 mph and 344.91 mph.
  • Langdon has two wins in three final rounds at Bristol Dragway.
  • Langdon is the 2013 NHRA Top Fuel Champion and now has 26 wins in his career.

Pre-Race Quotes:

“Obviously, we would have loved to have run the Epping final (On Sunday), but we can’t control mother nature, so it is what it is. The Kalitta Air Careers car was really good in Epping, and we felt really good about our chances in the final. It’s out of our control so we just regroup and get the job done in Bristol.

“The Friday night session will obviously probably be the better of the four qualifying sessions so that will set the tone for how you qualify for the race, plus it’s the Epping final on top of it. They redid the track, so we don’t really know what to expect. We’ll just have to get down there and see how the track looks, see how that first qualifying session goes, and then we’ll have about an hour and a half to figure it out.

“Bristol Dragway is one of the most beautiful, scenic racetracks on tour, and we’ve had some success there in the past. It’s a great area. I love going there, and the track should be really good. Big props to Thunder Valley and NHRA for resurfacing the track to give the fans the best possible show. A lot of it will still be temperature dependent with the elevation, but hopefully, it’s smoother and will allow us to run a little bit quicker. If the conditions cooperate Friday night, we could be able to go really fast there.”
