Pre-Race Notes:

  • Doug Kalitta enters the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals atop the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. Kalitta’s teammate, Shawn Langdon, is currently second in points making Team Kalitta one-two in points following the season’s third race.
  • The two-time and defending NHRA Top Fuel champion reached the final round at the season-opening NHRA Gatornationals in Florida and the semifinals in both Phoenix and Pomona, Calif. The Mac Tools Top Fuel driver is enjoying an extremely consistent start to his title defense.
  • Kalitta is perfect in this season’s Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge, the rematch of the semifinals and final at the previous event. After winning the Saturday event five times in route to the 2025 overall Mission Foods Challenge title, Kalitta won the first two events of the season in Phoenix and Pomona, Calif.
  • When Kalitta advanced to the second round two weeks ago in California, he earned a spot in this week’s Mission Foods Challenge. During Saturday’s qualifying sessions, the drivers who reached the quarterfinals at the last race will re-run the 4-Wide semifinals and final earning additional purse and championship bonus points. Due to the 4-Wide format, eight drivers will compete in the event in each class instead of four.
  • Kalitta has two wins in six final-round appearances along with three No. 1 qualifiers at zMAX Dragway. He has never won a 4-wide race at zMAX Dragway but captured his first 4-Wide win in Las Vegas in 2024.
  • Kalitta’s 59 race wins place him fourth all-time in Top Fuel wins and 12th overall. His 66 career No. 1 qualifiers place him tied with Kenny Bernstein for seventh all-time. He is seventh all-time in round wins
  • Kalitta is a two-time NHRA Top Fuel Champion (2023, ’25) and a member of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Pre-Race Quotes:

“I have some guys on my Mac Tools team that are hungry to get a win, and I’m just as hungry as they are so we’ll see what happens. Charlotte is an incredible facility, and we’re looking forward to going there like we always do. Marcus and Bruton (Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith and his late father, Speedway Motorsports Founder Bruton Smith) put some great facilities together, and we’re fortunate they’ve done that for us. We’re looking forward to it.

“Every time we go up to the starting line, regardless of what we’re doing or who’s in the other lane, I’m always about just trying to get the win light to come on in my lane. I’m just happy to be able to do some racing; Alan (Crew Chief Alan Johnson) builds all these parts, and that Alan Johnson horsepower is big deal. When you get to about half track, and it’s really pulling, it’s hooked up and it’s one to one (clutch and engine are locked in and car not spinning its tires), I know I have a good shot to get the win.

“Drag Racing is an incredible team effort; winning these things (Mission Foods Challenge) on Saturday is huge momentum for everybody on our team. Every opponent is tough – first round to fourth round if you make it that far. Winning on Saturday is a great momentum builder for us on Sunday.”
