Current Points Position: 2
Pre-Race Notes:
Pre-Race Quotes:
“For Alan, Mac (Crew Chiefs Alan Johnson and Mac Savage) and the whole Mac Tools team, what we have going on for the Saturday races is great – we just have to keep it going to keep earning as many points as we can get, but we have to get that going on Sundays. It’s competitive out here. Some days you need a little bit of luck, but we’ve assembled a great team, and we just need to keep doing what we’re doing, We’re obviously trying to win these things on Sunday, and hopefully we can even the Sunday score with the Saturday results one of these days. It’s a crapshoot tuning these things; I’m glad it’s Alan and Mac’s job because it’s a lot of moving parts, for sure.
“Really, you have to make your own luck, but sometimes, parts just break. In Epping, we broke a throttle cable at about 800 feet so that was about as unlucky as it gets – moving on from that was a lot to stomach. It’s just a matter of everybody doing their job and having a burning desire to win these things. One thing I always admire about all these crew chiefs, is we move around with all these different conditions, and my guys just go back, dial this thing in and it goes down the track. They make it look easy to that’s pretty cool in my book.
“Shawn’s definitely got our Sunday number, so we’re hoping to catch up with him, but Brian (Langdon Crew Chief Brian Husen) is doing one hell of a job with Shawn’s car. Brian and Alan worked together for over 20 years; I don’t know how many races and championships they won together. I think Alan is super proud of what Brian is doing, and I think there’s mutual respect between the two of them. It’s the same for Shawn and me. He’s probably one of the best drivers out here; you always have to be up on your game when you race him so it’s super fun. It motivates me; when you get an opportunity like I have with the team and sponsors I have, you better take advantage of it.
“Norwalk is close to Ypsilanti (Michigan) where our home base is so we’ll get a few extra people from the local area down there so it’ll be fun. With it being so close to our home base, it’s a good time for our employees and some of their families to get to a race so we’ll encourage people to come out, support our teams and have some fun with it.”
