Wow, NHRA made Yahoo

It's been established that, with the modern timing systems and the equipment they use, it's pretty much impossible for the system to declare a tie.

99.99% of the time, a winner is known. and the MPH will never be needed for a backup method of determining the winner.

So, IMHO, this conversation has come to the point where we're

I am guilty as charged; I stated something as fact when it was not. At one time, NHRA DID use MPH to determine "winners" in races that otherwise appeared to be a dead heat. I don't know how long ago that was, but I well remember it, because at the time, I thought it was a wrong-headed approach to the problem.. I still do, but it's moot, now.

Sometimes I forget how long I've been doing this (watching racing,)

I apologize to everyone concerned... mea culpa!

Ahhhh, the typical response when someone is wrong.....keep blaming someone else instead of taking accoutability.

So Bill, if you did not know the answer like you say, then why come flying out of the gate posting something like it is fact? If I didn't know, I think I would just ask the question to someone who did.

Got to love it, LOL!

Read the above post...

Ive been racing since 1977 and a track/NHRA official since 1984 and MPH has had no bearing on elimination outcome in that time, Yes it is tie breaker in Qualifying for heads up categories.

Seems like we all need to give Bill a break here.....He's said that he didn't realize the way things are now.....Heck, he even gave a MEA CULPA !!!.................e

Well, I was going to the drags for 22 years before 1977, so maybe I'm remembering something from the flag-start days (pre 1963.)

On the one hand, I can say, "Gimme a break' it's my Alzheimer's kicking in...' but, on the other hand, I can say, "You don't have ANY IDEA of what you missed in those years..." LOL!

We didn't even have E.T. clocks when I started going to the drags; MPH-only.

But you know what? It was a LOT of fun!!!! :)

I remember people calling you a fossil 15 years ago. Now, I think you have actually earned that status! And, I don't mean that in a bad way! ;):)

Yeah, Bob... I thought I was "old," then...

Now, the antiquity of what I remember is begenning to affect what I write...

There's one thing about getting old; it's a lot like climbing a mountain... a lot of work and effort to get there, but once you've arrived, WHAT A VIEW!!! :)
