I like, it's a good start... couldn't tell from the pictures, do the guide wall taper closer together as the approach the catch nets?

will it work at the parking lot... I mean PoMoNa...:D I said that in jest, but is the trap at the fairplex 300 feet or so?

Still like the idea of color coding the walls:)

I still don't understand why the sand trap is higher than the track surface. Wouldn't it still act as a ramp?

OK I am going to ask it.......What is it going to Cost the Racers and the Spectators for this kind of upgrade to the track? You know the NHRA isn't going to eat this increase in expense.

All i have to say is two thumbs up! I guess i dont know how in the world it took 50+ years to figure it out but definatly a step in the right direction!

It drives the car into the media, the drag from it slows the car down as it sinks into it. Its like the runaway truck ramps on long hills, they are ramped upwards too. If you have ever driven on a sandy beach with skinny tires, you would have the same effect.

I know that safety is a serious thing but when looking at those pics I get images in my head of people playing vollyball after a race or during an oil down lol . Its really good that they are doing something though and making the needed changes

I think it is beautiful. Thumbs up to NHRA for adding this the ORP. I just hope nobody has to use it. Looks good!!!

You can run on sand, especially in high humidity conditions or if the sand hasn't been recently raked and stirred. Pea gravel is hard to walk on under any conditions. Pea gravel will stop cars.

That's just outstanding. I 'll think of Scott every time I see one of these, and I expect I 'll see them at every track before long.

And yes - why not go 1320 at the big go

Its a good thing, but I think they need to go one step further. The cement walls should have maybe some of those trash can looking barriers filled with water or sand, to stop a straight on hit from a vehicle..........it is nice to see them get this done for this race and the other tracks starting to do what they can also. Id like to see the myth busters do some testing, that would be interesting on what they would come up with as alternative stopping ideas.

Great start NHRA! Indy and Ennis have done something, so let's get back to 1320 racing at those facilities!
The US Nationals racing at 1000ft is blasphemy!
