WORSHAM HANGS TIGHT, WILL RACE FROM 13th SLOT

Almost nothing changed today, in the world of NHRA POWERade Funny Car racing, as the only driver to move onto the ladder from outside the field was Tim Wilkerson, who moved from below the cut line into 15th on his last pass. Two of the games biggest guns failed to make the field for this race, as Robert Hight (2nd in points) suffered his first career DNQ and Mike Ashley (3rd in points) went from the Winner's Circle one week ago to the sidelines here.

For Del Worsham, it was one tire smoker in the heat of the day, and one clean coast-to-coast run in the latter session, where he posted a 4.957.

Worsham will face Jim Head in round one.

"We're in, and you can't win anything if you're not in the field, so I'm up for that," Worsham said. "It really did come down to a one-session deal, with just about everybody's Friday night run being the one they used to get in the show. I'll give Timmy (Wilkerson) some credit, because that was a nice run he made to move into the show, when guys like Mike Ashley and Robert Hight weren't able to do it.

"For us, we were just determined to go to the finish line under power on that last lap, to make sure we could do it when the sun was out. It was pretty soft, but it went down there and was fine. Now it's going to come down to the conditions tomorrow, and who adapts to them the best. At one point we got to 120-degrees for track temperature today, and you could see that none of the Top Fuel or Funny Cars liked that. We'll just come out and see what it's like, and then the mission will be to get to the other end under power."
