[coverattach=1]KERNERSVILLE, NC (June 25, 2009) Doug Winters and the Winters Racing
Team will take their Chicago Pneumatic ’57 Chevy Nitro Extreme to the new zMAX Dragway located in Charlotte, NC this weekend. They will be competing in the Nitro Coupes class during this Inaugural event for Super Chevy Show at zMax Dragway. This marks the return to the Carolinas for the Super Chevy Show in almost 10 years.
With Winters Racing only located 80 miles from zMax Dragway, this has become a big event for the whole team. “We are really excited to be racing here at this new facility,” stated Doug. “And with it so close to home, this is now our home track. We have so many family and friends coming to this event. Typically, they do not get to see us compete because we travel so much. So this is a great treat for them.”
Another aspect about this weekend’s event, Chicago Pneumatic Distribution facility is located in Charlotte. The Chicago Pneumatic tools distribution facility serves about 450 distributors and thousands of customers across the U.S. and Canada. It handles an average 16,000 orders per month for 472 different tools and 8,135 parts and accessories -- a total 1,657 tons of tool power per year! The facility is so efficient that customers on the West coast can receive deliveries within four days after an order is placed. “Chicago Pneumatic has really helped us out this year and to be able to bring the car so close to one of the Chicago Pneumatics facilities is great for us and Chicago Pneumatic.”
With all the great marketing aspects that has happened this year for Winters Racing sponsors, Doug admits that the on the track performance could have been better. “We have really been struggling this year. We just can’t find the consistency. We’ll have a great pass one run and the next will have to be aborted. So it has been really hard to tune the engine to get the numbers we know we are capable of achieving.” Doug and team think they have found the problem in the clutch. “The last race we made some major changes to the clutch and the car responded pretty well. On a safe tune up we ran a 4.05sec and a 4.10sec on a very hot track. After the run we took a look at the plugs and we know we have plenty of power left in the motor. So this weekend we are hoping that our clutch issues are behind us and we can start laying the power to the track.” Doug will be testing Friday at the track in preparation for this weekends event.
Nitro Coupes qualify on Saturday June 27th with eliminations set for Sunday June 28th. Fans can refer to the Super Chevy Show or VMP web sites for a detail schedule, The Official Website of the Super Chevy Show or Lowe's Motor Speedway | zMAX Dragway.
As always, the team would like to thank Chicago Pneumatic, Mickey Thompson Tires, NGK Spark Plugs, Optima Batteries, Computech Systems and Safe Jacks for their continued support.
