Richmond, VA (10-8-08) -- Because Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie is less than a two-hour drive from his Monrovia, Md., home, Justin Humphreys and the RaceRedi Motorsports team expect a good turnout of friends and family for the Virginia Nationals, Friday through Sunday.

And Humphreys, in turn, hopes to reward them with photo opportunities of him in winner’s circle with his Pro Stock Pontiac GXP.

It was just a month ago that Humphreys experienced his first NHRA victory at Charlotte, and the success merely whetted his appetite for more. Now competing with motors from the shop of Warren and Kurt Johnson, Humphreys believes he can win again. He also gives credit to his crew chief, Frank Gugliotta, for finding the right tuning combination for the motor and chassis.

“Because this is one of our closest races to home, I’m sure our pit area will be busy this weekend,” Humphreys said. “Of course we’d like to go some rounds on Sunday. We’ll be trying to get back in the winner’s circle. That would give our friends something to talk about.”

In his second season of Pro Stock competition, Humphreys remained in contention for a top-10 spot despite changing cars and engine providers eight races into the 18-event regular season. And then he switched from Allen and Roy Johnson’s Dodge to Warren and Kurt Johnson power – and returned to driving his Pontiac – 10 races later. He finished the regular season 12th but goes into Richmond tied for 11th place with Warren Johnson.

“We didn’t have a lot to do after we finished our three-in-a-row (races at Charlotte, Dallas and Memphis), but I know Warren, Kurt and the guys at their shop were thrashing on the motors,” said Humphreys. “We are looking forward to this race. We can’t finish any higher than 11th, but we can play the spoiler’s role for the guys who are fighting for the championship.”
