In the opening round of eliminations at the rescheduled Inaugural NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Nationals, Hillary Will, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster, gave her teammate Doug Kalitta, who pilots the "Big Red" / Kalitta Motorsports / Mac Tools Dragster, all he could handle, with Kalitta turning on the win light by 58 hundredths of a second.
Kalitta was out first at the green, but Will had her KB Racing dragster right by Kalitta's side all the way down the track. It was a good old fashion drag race with Kalitta's scoreboard reading 4.587 seconds to 4.599 seconds for Will.
With the loss, Will dropped out of the top ten in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings. She is now 11th with 948 points. With two races remaining this season (118 points and 20 bonus points per race available), Will is just eight points out of the top ten, 22 points behind No. 9, and 31 points behind eighth. Plenty of time for the KB Racing team to jump back into the top ten.
ESPN2 / ESPN2 HD will air qualifying highlights from Friday and Saturday along with same-day television coverage of today's eliminations tonight from 7 until 9:30 p.m. for the Inaugural NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Nationals. Television time is Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.
Will and her team now take a weekend off before moving to Las Vegas, the home of KB Racing LLC team owners Ken Black and his son Kenny Black. The next-to-last event on the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule, the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, will unfold at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 26-29.
