So, do the competitors run black slashes across their numbers for the rest of the season. For all intended purposes, some classes are done.

Maybe Rambo's greatest race decision was not taking the stripe first round. As the saying goes..."All money ain't good money".

It is very difficult racing in Comp in those kind of mineshaft conditions-look at what my racing partner Al Ackerman and Alan Stanfield did in the third round-they were both peddling like crazy at the top end in an effort to avoid hitting the index-Al had taken 10 in CIC going into that round and if he took anymore it would have been permanent. It easy for us keyboard jockeys to say that he had 10 to play around with because his opponent was late, but how does the driver in the car know that. I think that the cutoff for a permanent hit should change went people are racing in the kind of conditions they faced in Richmond. Those going to Vegas are faced with the same dilemma because the ridiculous altitude adjustment factors that NHRA has.

Daaaannnnggggg. I didn't get to follow the races yesterday and just now looked at the results. Looks like a CIC bloodbath. How about the 2 B/SR's in the semis?

BSR is history!

There should be provisions, races like this are expensive and unhealthy.

I wonder the cost of this question..."Hey Grumpy, I think I need two tenths by the end of the week, can you help a brother out"?

I was at Gainesville last year when it was FREEZING! Anyway it was the same thing, if you didn't run .65 under you were in the lower half of the bracket! How in the world can NHRA legislate when and where those guys run?

Not to de-rail the thread, but Johhny where do you get the custom-bike pics in your avatar? Do you build 'em?

Dave,

The biggest problem is you've got a bunch of drivers in Comp that don't know how to bracket race. They can't tell whether they hit the tree or not and are piss poor at judging the stripe.

A certain C/DA driver hit the index permanently in a losing effort first round after being .182 on the tree to the opponents .027. And only killed 5 MPH when it wasn't even close!

My best friend, Frank Cervelli was driving a B/AA at Richmond and has a shot at the Top 10 in his C/DA. But now this other C/DA driver may have screwed him because they don't know how to drive!

Where you really run into problems in those conditions is when both drivers hit the tree equally well and the cars are both about the same under the index. That's a recipe for hammering the index.

Remember that it is very hard when there is such a mph differential as sometimes happens in comp. My driver, Lee Zane, is as good a bracket racer as there is. But when he is racing a 190-200 mph car, he is going to have trouble racing the finish line. What the hell, even Rampy screws now and then and no one is better than him.

Dave,

One other thought, maybe we need more races like Richmond to harden up some of the softer indexes... of course that doesn't account for the non-drivers.

Yeah, I definitely know what you mean about the BIG mph splits. It's tougher for the slower cars but there's little excuse for the faster car. I've run brackets where I had 60 mph splits... but as the faster car I knew whether I was going to get there or not.

As you noted, everyone screws up. But when someone like Rampy does there's usually a pretty good explanation... not just boneheaded driving. The the race in round 1 I referred to there was only a 20 mph split... no excuse there.

Why not de-tune to a "safe" place? Also NHRA could factor up the mineshaft races it would seem.

At the end of the day, there's no cure for boneheadedness.

Based on comments made earlier in the year there may be a couple of cars (or at least one) in B/SR that are having a contest to see who can destroy the index the most.

Rich, I'm all for that! I loved Pro Comp, to this day some of my favorite cars of all time raced in that class. Back to Comp, what rules does the turbo I/D race under? That car flies.

Comp is Pro Comp!

Martel and Bertozzi, what's the basis of the titanic beef? Rumor has it, hate is not a enough strong word.

I have never understood the comp thing. People racing on indexes that are apparently fake.

When you guys are talking about people "not knowing how to drive" I assume you mean they are going quicker than they need to to win.

I can't believe we are even talking about drag racing here.
