Wilkerson improves in the second day of qualifying at the U.S. Nationals

Indianapolis, Saturday: Tim Wilkerson stepped up the performance of his Levi, Ray & Shoup Monte Carlo today at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. After two good runs, Wilkerson sits in the No. 13 qualifying position at the close of the second day of qualifying.

Showing that Wilkerson is headed in the right direction with the changes he recently made to his Funny Car, he posted a 4.845 at 319.37 mph in the first session of the day. He then followed it up with a crowd pleasing 4.784 at 316.60 mph in the evening session.

"It was a little better today," expressed Wilkerson. "On the first pass we were six or seventh fastest of the session and on the second run we were seventh or eighth. So, that means we're doing better. On our night run, we dropped a hole and ran on seven cylinders from about 700 feet on. So, it should have run a 74 or 75. But it ate itself up out there. Everybody knows it runs better on eight cylinders. But we're happy. The motor is acting good, so we just need to get it tuned-up right and see what happens tomorrow."
