INDIANAPOLIS, Monday: Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson would have liked a better outcome at the 53rd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Wilkerson had to load up his beautiful, Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Impala SS early in the day. Wilkerson lost in the first-round, as his opponent, Ashley Force laid down the quickest pass of the session, a 4.784 against his 4.965.
"We didn't have anything against her 78," said Wilkerson, "nobody in the entire session did. I was trying to go a little faster than it did, but it went through the clutch a little bit early. I was trying to go a low 90, which I thought would be enough. Quite frankly, I thought they would try to go fast and the track wouldn't hold it. They made a really good run.
But what are you going to do. If it were easy, everybody would be doing it. It's a little irritating that it didn't run better than it did. We just didn't have it tuned-up enough, but we didn't think we needed it. There were only a few good runs, the rest were about what we ran. Ashley made a really good run and deserved the win."
