Toyota and NAPA have got to be wondering what they were thinking by putting this idiot in charge of a MULTI million dollar effort to enter Nextel Cup racing! Check it out at NASCAR.com.

That's pretty harsh, Jim.

Said he fell asleep..you have to admit..the guy is under a tremendous amout of pressure.

The story is here:

WALTRIP

HARSH? If I rolled my SUV and snuck away in my socks through the woods and then avoided the police at my door for almost a day, would that be OK?
He was caught cheating at Daytona (and of course, lied by saying he had no knowledge of what was going on), fined a record number of points and his crew chief was fined $100K and suspended indefinately along with the teams competition director. Yes, he is under a tremendous amount of pressure, brought on entirely by his failures.
His presence has been requested at the "Oval Office" Nextel trailer Friday. Should be interesting to see what NASCAR has to say about a driver and team owner breaking the law.

You have NO proof that he cheated at Daytona except for your biased and pre-judged opinion. If you know it to be fact then prove it.

I happen to know first hand that Michael is a stand up guy and a genuine great person.

As for the "incedent", if true, everyone makes mistakes....yourself included, I'm sure. Why is it that when a celebrity makes a mistake they should be villified yet when it's a general "joe" as you and I, it's just a passing in the wind?

Give the guy a break. You're not the judge and jury.

Save your "morally" biased opinions for yourself.

Jim, you call him an idiot yet you can't figure out something as simple as using the quote button or quote tags so your posts don't look like a disaster. Pot calling the kettle black?

Wow. That thing is a mess. He obviously was wearing a seat belt. No way he would have walked away from that if he wasn't.

I'm guessing he got his bell rung good.

He is indeed having a cruddy year.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.

I will definitely give him the benefit of doubt but leaving the scene is not very smart.
As far as his cheating goes if the fines have already been levied and the people are banned as stated I would say NASCAR had the evidence to implement their actions which doesn't look to good! :(
I personally like Michael Waltrip I to think he is a stand up guy who just made some stupid decisions and I wish him luck.

Brent is right Jim, I understand pent up emotion however... If it feels good to say, you may want to re-think it before you post it... JMO

I can only imagine that Michael had crawled in the back to take a nap... Because even seatbelted in, that looks unsurvivable... WOW!! Very lucky man...

If he had been drinking alcohol before the crash leaving the scene was the smartest thing for him to do.
Unless a person is found in the drivers seat @ time of crash and is under the influence he/she cannot be charged w/ DUI.
A smart move by Waltrip...

I can speak from experience that driving while asleep is an exceptionally difficult thing to do! And, the state of Kansas has a policy requiring you to purchase any guard rails you destroy on state highways. :p

That is great idea with the guardrails... However, like MANY of the oil downs in Drag Racing... I would like to see the driver out there with a broom in his or her hands... If you catch my drift... You made the mess, now help clean it up...

An eye whitness to the wreck said she talked to him and said he didn't appear intoxicated or did he smell of alcohol, he was bleeding from a cut but said he was alright and thanked her for her assistance.

Drivers? How about some of those Crew Chiefs there, Ray?

And if you think it takes a long time to clean up now, imagine how long it will take for some of those Fat Wallet guys who haven't touched a broom in years to push around some kitty litter?

I guarantee Ted Kennedy agrees!

Well of course no one is going to take the blame for whatever caused the oildown... So in that regard, the whole team should be out there atleast pouring some kitty kat down and instead of a mic in the drivers face... How about a broom in their hand?? I guaranty you the crowd will, shall we say, help them sweep faster... :D I can hear all of the, you missed a spot nows... It would probably cut down on the track being soiled if the crew can't start working on the car until their chores are done... :p Ya think?? LOL O.K. maybe not... Thinking outloud again Martin, nothing new to see here...

First of all, please note that I HAVE used the Quote Button. I'm not sure that the less than pristine appearance of my posts has anything to do with this!
Proof of cheating? - as other posts state, the huge fine and sanctions by NASCAR should put that issue to rest. Unless, of course, you feel that NASCAR is wrong or has some conspiracy against Michael and Toyota, after catching them TWICE with an illegal substance in the intake manifold.
Mistakes? - I have been driving for 44 years. I did get a warning from a Tennessee State Trooper when I was 16 for driving my restored Model A at 75 on the freeway in Memphis. He let me go because he didn't think the old girl could go that fast. I certainly have never wandered home through the woods in my socks after a very questionable crash.
And . . . if an "Average Joe" had an accident like this in Maricopa County and left the scene, I doubt that Sherriff Joe's guys would politely knock on the door and leave when there was no answer. If the criminal charges are dropped in this "Incident" it won't be because because Michael is an "Average Joe".
It will very interesting to see what the result of Michael's visit to the NEXTEL "Oval Office" is tomorrow.
