his wikpedia page and read this.......

In 1960, he became the first driver to heat his rear tires with a burnout and he was the first driver to use smaller front tires on a dragster in 1958.[3] Hill introduced the aerodynamic front wing to dragsters and charcoal masks for driver safety.[10]
 

I have to admit that I have mixed emotions about you pointing out this link. I have already spent an hour there and not even scratched the surface. Now I have it bookmarked and will no doubt spend many more hours looking at pics. I just don't have the time. I mean, Virgil Cates???? I saw that guy race at Dragway 42 when I was a kid (I am 58 now!). Thanks for the link. Ain't this sport addictive?
