Veterans and newcomers ready to race at PMRA opener
Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga to host bevy of Pro Modified teams

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 13, 2008) - Since the inception of the Pro Modified Racing Association four years ago, the Pro Modified series Presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario has offered some of the best racing of its kind, and there has not been a dominate team capturing all the races.

In fact, out of the past 14 PMRA events, there has been only one repeat event winner. Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario, won the 2007 final at the Grand Bend Motorplex over Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario. Boniferro also won the same event in 2006, making him the only multiple event winner in PMRA history.

Both Boniferro and Boland, who captured the 2007 PMRA Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated, will be ready to compete in the PMRA’s 2008 opener for the Third Annual Victoria Day Weekend - PMRA Challenge at Toronto Motorsports Park at Cayuga May 17 and 18.

The pair will join their fellow PMRA veterans and a host of new teams to the series as this year’s tour gets underway.

Teams returning this year include Ralph Andreacchi of Maple, Ontario, with his Studebaker, Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario with his 1969 Nova, the 1971 Challenger of Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, the Rochester, New York-based Corvette of Mike Cusimano and Joe Caruso, Jack Grainy of Tonawanda, New York with a new Camaro, the Willys coupe of Guenther Racing of Livonia, New York, Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario with his Camaro, Larry Sinke of Welland, Ontario and his 1967 Nova, Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, Ontario and his new Eaton Cutler-Hammer 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York, and his G-Force Race Cars Camaro, and the Kirk Silbermann – Ajax Engines Camaro Pro Modified with Scott Wildgust of Stratford, Ontario behind the wheel.

This powerful lineup will be facing some strong newcomers to the PMRA this weekend.

Making their PMRA debut will be the Nazca Racing Camaro of Jack Brohman of Jarvis, Ontario, the turbo-powered Camaro of Holley, New York’s Randy Jewell, the nitrous-powered Chevy Lumina entry of Wayne Nielsen of London, Ontario, the 1957 Chevy of Jeff Roth from Kitchener, Ontario, and from Erie, Pennsylvania, the 2000 Corvette of John Vergotz.

The Toronto Motorsports Park event will be the first of six events for the 2008 PMRA season.

With increased sponsorship, a record number of teams, and a reinstated Chicago-style Shootout to round out the eliminations, this season promises to be the best ever for the PMRA fans.

There will be three qualifying sessions on Saturday, May 17 starting at 4:00 p.m. Eliminations for the top eight qualifiers will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday May 18, along with qualifying in the Ajax Engines Chicago-Style Shootout. Finals will begin at about 4:00 p.m.

Joining the PMRA Pro Modifieds at Toronto Motorsports Park will be the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-root drag series, which features competitors from Ontario and New York, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season. The participants, known for their awesome wheelies, are fan favorites wherever they appear.

The PMRA will compete at several drag strips in 2008. There are two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, May 17 and 18, and June 28. The next event is at New York International Raceway Park June 7 in New York State, then Dunn Tire Raceway Park July 26, also in New York State. An event is scheduled at the Sanair facility in Quebec August 16, and the season-closer will be held at the Southwestern Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex August 30 and 31.
