INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 2) -- Top Fuel owner David Powers announced today he had come to a sponsorship agreement with Valvoline for the 2007 season, thus continuing a relationship that has helped build one of NHRA’s most promising teams.
“We both decided to keep the momentum going,” said Powers. “We have a winning driver in Hot Rod Fuller, a near-legend crew chief in Lee Beard and an organization that has made a significant impact in the Top Fuel ranks. I’m pleased we could bring Valvoline back in 2007.”
Fuller has raced to three victories in six final-round appearances since Powers selected him as his driver in 2005. Last year the team raced to a top-10 finish despite running just 15 races. This year, Fuller, Beard and company have stayed in title contention with two wins and one runner-up finish. Fuller is currently sixth in Top Fuel points.
"I couldn’t have been more pleased when David told me he and Valvoline had worked out a deal," Fuller said. “Relationships mean everything to me and, frankly, I think using Valvoline products gives us an edge.”
The 35-year-old Fuller has been the face of Valvoline Racing for years, including his successful run in the sportsman ranks where he was voted "Driver of the Decade" in the 1990s. Fuller and Beard are signed with David Powers Motorsports through 2008.
