That will never happen. Ever. Not only was the property it resides on re-zoned, but the area around it is so build up with residences and new strip malls along the U.S. 30 and Clay Street intersection. The article pretty much affirmed that. It may re-open at another location in Gary according to the report. I wouldn't attend. Talk of this usually comes up every 5-10 years. The people don't want it.
Support their efforts rather than immediately go negative. Write letter what ever it takes. A lot of town are looking for anything to help recover the economy even drag racing.
This image is old. At that intersection is now a stop light, and to the north instead of that old gas station it is all a strip mall. You can see where the track sits just north of that. Scroll the map to the left. See that subdivision just past where the sand trap would be? It would literally be a racetrack in the middle of a neighborhood. Might I add just a block further west is a huge shopping complex. It's not coming back unless we demo a lot of houses and businesses. I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic. The past is gone and it's not coming back.
