Boland, Stawicki share PMRA honors
Two Pro Mod finalists split PMRA race at NYIRP

Leicester, New York (June 7, 2008) - The inaugural First Annual PMRA Challenge Presented by Vito Antonicelli Race Cars<img src="http://www.nitromater.com/gallery/files/5/pmra0046.jpg" alt="pmra0046" align="left"borders="0"/> and New York International Raceway Park got down to the final pair, but due to less than satisfactory track conditions, the event was halted before the final was completed.

The event was the second in the six-race Pro Modified Racing Association Tour for 2008. A 14-car field went through all qualifying sessions, and two rounds of eliminations before track conditions deteriorated thanks to a great deal of moisture, making it unsafe for the final.

The two finalists were Mike Stawicki of Tonawanda, New York, in the G-Force Race Cars1967 Camaro, and Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, in his B&B Racing 1963 Chevy Corvette.

Going into the semi-final round, three of the four contestants are previous PMRA event winners. Only the Grainy Brothers Team of North Tonawanda, NY had yet to win a PMRA race.

The Grainy team was debuting its new G-Force 1967 Camaro, and seemed to have the early bugs worked out of the car with some impressive passes down the track. Unfortunately they met up with Stawicki in the semi, who continued to tear up the track, this time with a 4.040-second, 183.18-mph winning pass against Jack Grainy’s 4.405-second, 153.93-mph run.

In the other semi-final round, Boland continued to impress the NYIRP crowd, posting a 4.198-second, 166.63-mph pass against the 1969 Chevy Nova of Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario, who ran a 4.295-second, 169.77-mph lap.

In round one of eliminations, Larry Sinke of Welland, Ontario, in the Hammer Racing 1967 Chevy Nova fouled against Andreacchi. Stawicki eliminated Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario, in the J&J Roth Racing 1957 Chevy, Grainy got by the Livonia, New York-based Guenther Racing 1941 Willys with Matt Guenther behind the wheel, and Boland ran a 4.099-second pass to take out the Midlife Crisis 1994 Corvette of the Rochester, New York team of Joe Caruso and Mike Cusimano.

Stawicki paced the 14-car field with his G-Force Race Cars entry, qualifying with a 4.107-sec, 183.11-mph pass down the NYIRP strip in eighth-mile competition. Boland was next in his new Corvette with a 4.118-sec, 175.88-mph pass. Sinke was third, while Guenther was fourth and Grainy rounded out the top five.

The next event on the PMRA tour will be the KC Auto Parts Family Day at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario June 28.

The PMRA will compete at several drag strips in 2008. There are two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, June 28 and a date to be rescheduled. At New York International Raceway Park June 7 in New York State, then Dunn Tire Raceway Park July 26, also in New York State. An event is scheduled at the Sanair facility in Quebec August 16, and the season-closer will be held at the Southwestern Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex August 30 and 31.
