<P> (7-27-08) LANCASTER, NEW YORK – Fans were treated to some terrific Pro Modified racing at the Fourth Annual PMRA Challenge presented by G-Force Race Cars, Grainy's Automotive and Niagara Auto on the Dunn Tire Raceway Park drag strip, and when the close racing was over, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York was declared the victor.

“This was a good win for G-Force Race Cars today, we helped sponsor the event and to win with our hometown fans and family was very special,” said the driver of the G-Force Race Cars 1967 Camaro after the final round. “We had some engine issues earlier in the week, but got all that sorted out. The car ran good for us all day.”

“The team did a great job and we certainly couldn’t have done it without the support of Mastin Engineering, Refreshment Supply, DMPE, NGK Spark Plugs and Mickey Thompson Tires”, added Stawicki.

The event was the fourth round in the 2008 Pro Modified Racing Association tour.

Stawicki was paired with Mike Cusimano for the final, and in a very tight contest, Stawicki got by Cusimano with a 4.266-second, 161.87-mph win over Cusimano’s 4.390-second, 163.12-mph lap.

Stawicki had his hands full in the final with Cusimano, who was driving the Midlife Crisis 1994 Corvette Pro Modified out of Rochester, New York. Cusimano and co-owner Joe Caruso had earlier found the quickest way down the Dunn Tire Raceway Park eighth-mile, posing a 4.32-second, 164.85-mph pass to take number one qualifying spot.

“We found the combination today, thanks to our crew chief John Vorous,” said Cusimano after the final. “Our car was really performing well. It was really hooked up.”

The runner-up finish was the best posting for Cusimano to date in PMRA racing.

Stawicki qualified third behind Cusimano and Jack Grainy with the Grainy Brothers 1967 Camaro from North Tonawanda, New York. John Vergotz of Erie, Pennsylvania qualified his nitrous-powered 2000 Corvette fourth and Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario rounded out the top five with his B&B Racing 1963 Corvette.

In first-round action, Stawicki eliminated number sixth qualifier Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario with his 1999 Avenger, and took out Randy Jewell of Holley, New York and his turbo-powered JFM Racing 1968 Camaro in the semi-final.

On the other side of the ladder, Cusimano eliminated Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario in the J&J Roth Racing 1957 Chevy in the first round, and won in the semi over a tire-shaking Boland.

After the Dunn Tire Raceway Park event, points standings in the PMRA 2008 Point Award Series Standings sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen has Bruce Boland still leading with 903 points, followed by Jeff Roth with 843. Third is Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, with 840 points, next is Jewell with 837, and Boniferro is now fifth with 828 points. Stawicki, Grainy, Cusimano, Larry Sinke of Welland, Ontario, and Vergotz make up the top ten.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its fourth year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The series has event venues in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with different types of 2,500-horsepower supercharged, nitrous powered and turbocharged engines.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
