I wonder if Tucson Dragway could take over the race from Wildhorse pass, Looks like it would take a lot of money and upgrades but it would be cool to still have an Arizona Nationals

from what I understand, theres not enough land to expand the pits

I ran the division race there in 2021 and it was so windy they ended up running it as an 1/8th mile race on Sunday.

Plenty of land, it's the Pima County Fairgrounds. Would need more seating which could be done. Wind is wind, that happens everywhere.

Related to Tucson: This will air this weekend on American Dream TV. I think it's not because I was part of it, they were doing it before I got invited but using a Dragstrip for a real estate show is cool.
P.S. Don't give up on Wild Horse just yet. The freeway construction was scrapped, so there's at east a chance.

I would love for that to happen but the only way a national event could work out down there (in my barely educated opinion) is if they ran a national event without a majority of the sportsman classes, mainly the super classes because pit parking would be very tight, but I dont see that happening. Like Alan said, they have the room to expand seating especially if they got Firebird's grandstands but there is also the issue that the timing/race control tower is pretty small and there is no media center to speak of there and I dont know if those factor into holding a national event.

As much as I want to have hope that a stay of execution will be granted for Firebird and want to believe anything that supports it, I still have a feeling in a couple years Ill be driving down the 10 and look over and think, that is where my dragstrip use to be. Besides the freeway project was only a small sliver of the property and I know they have been looking to build an entertainment/shopping district near the casino for quite awhile. The fact that the Phoenix Rising left after only a year or two is another sign to me that the retail development is coming.

Btw are you going to be at the divisional this weekend?

really cool Alan...

Speedworld closed 2013. I went to a sale after it closed & bought a couple of signs & other stuff. Man I miss this track! Nothing has been done with the land. They were supposed to use it for storage. Now there are houses being built in the area, so doubt it will ever come back.

It was all because the BLM got into a fight with the MX track. Something about moving dirt, now inagine operating a MX course without moving dirt around. That was the excuse for pulling the lease on the entire operation.
It's a shame because that place had a place for everything, RC Planes & Cars, Dirt Bike, Drag racing and others.
