Troxel riding winning momentum into Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 28, 2008) - Melanie Troxel, driver of the ProCare Rx Dodge Charger R/T nitro Funny Car, is on a roll, and heading into this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka, the most recent winner on the NHRA tour is hoping to ride the momentum all the way to the winner's circle.

Troxel won the last event in Bristol, Tenn. and added her name to an elite list of only 14 drivers who have won in both nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel Dragster. She also holds the honor of being the first woman to achieve that feat.

"We've got a lot of momentum on the team right now heading into Topeka, and we're really looking forward to racing this weekend," Troxel said. "Personally, I've had a lot of success at this track, and with Mike's win here last year, we're pretty confident."

Team co-owner Mike Ashley piloted his Funny Car to his first NHRA Funny Car national event win last year, and in 1999, Troxel scored her second national event win at Heartland Park when she drove her Top Alcohol Dragster to the winner's circle from the No. 1 qualifying spot.

"Topeka is like my 'second-home track' because it's so close to where I grew up in Colorado. I've been coming here for a long time, so I'm very comfortable with the track. It can be really fast, and if the weather cooperates, we should see the same competition we've come to expect from Funny Cars this year.

"It's a great feeling to be coming into this weekend with a win behind me. It's like another chapter in the book, and things are just starting to get really good," Troxel said.
