Top Fuel Bike WORLD RECORD

Did he manage to keep it off of the wall? It looks like it was really pulling over past the finish line. What a pass!

Larry McBride ran a 5.65 at Valdosta about 2 years ago, not sure if he backed it up though!

No fuel bike has run in the 60s. Larry's best is a 5.746. You're correct in the fact her never backed it up - He made the pass on the final lap of the event that year.

Regards,

Mike

I remember a quote from a driver/crew cheif after watching a TF bike make a pass with the front wheel in the air till 1200 feet, and set it down with a puff of smoke just before the lights.

"I wouldn't get out of the electric chair to ride one of those things!!!!!"

a WORLD RECORD is a world record no matter where in the world it happened

Oh....I think we all agree....and that is onehelluvarun! He is loose in the saddle, lets it hunt around the first 100ft or so beneath him, then straight as I've seen any fuel bike go. They're usually hanging off the side trying to right the course, and I am sure that is a huge part as to why this run was so quick. Good performance, good rider, good pass. Well done to the whole crew!

Congratulations on a tremendous performance!

For students of the sport, check out the clear effect of torque on the leave. Look at the respective heights of the wheelie bar wheels before the launch, then note the marks each make on the leave.

The wiggling the bike does in the first couple of hundred feet is indicative also. It's the mark of the tire being run at 98-102 percent (or so) of its traction capacity which means it's pretty close to ideal.

Balls big enough to come in a dump truck! They must be detachable or something because there is no way they fit in the fire suit LOL.

I am a pretty deluded individual, and even I harbor no delusions of ever trying to ride one of those things.

Well done to all involved!

What's the big deal, or am I missing something?

Unleashed I'd wager BOTH Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycles could run that fast.

Back around '97-'98 some Swedish Fuelbike racer ran exhibition at Indy like 2-3 years in a row! He was a younger guy in his 30's, was this him???

Bob Frye made that exact comment at Indy in 1996 when Elmer Trett made his Friday night run!

straight, and then when he rolled off it made the move....I thought the torque in drag bikes was all aligned with the direction of travel causing a more gyroscopic effect? not sure...but perhaps the setup includes a bias like roundy-rounds....

the photo posted by Ed O'Connell shows it happened more than once. someone install a snowspeeder flap on the left side of that bike!
