Beginning it 2011, Top Eliminator West will be renamed Pacific ProComp. "When I would talk to people about Top Eliminator West they would almost always say “that’s just like the old Pro Comp class that would run dragsters and funny cars together.” So after great consideration I will be changing the name to Pacific ProComp. I think that people will identify with the class more readily, because we do run any car (rear engine dragsters, front engine dragsters, funny cars, pro mods, alterds, Etc.) with any engine combination" explained association president Curtis Clevenger.

In addition to the name, there will be other changes made in the off-season including raising the index to 6.60 and make it an all run class. "The index change will save parts, draw more cars and still be a crowd-pleasing show. There will be a bigger turn out of cars in the 6.60-6.90 range and more cars will show up to compete if they know that they are going to make first round. We will still make qualifying exciting with incentives for the top qualifier" Clevenger said.

Also, all electronics on the throttle after the car is launched and down track will not be permited except on engine timing. Everything else will remain the same with a heads up 4 tenths pro-tree. There will also be no limits on cubic inch, fuel, blowers or nitrous, chassis or body style.

I still have some "Top Gas West" stickers from back when we used to run it before the first name change.

I think the format changes are good. It gives the now defunct CIFCA guys a place to exercise their hardware. Besides, I used to enjoy tangling with all the dragsters in my altered 30+ years ago when it was flat out/no index.

Very good news and a great idea Rich. The Pro Comp class was one of the more entertaining classes to watch back in the late 70's and very early 80's. Should help with drawing more old-school fans to the track to see some great 6.30-index racing.

Hopefully like Mr. Goodwin said, some of the CIFCA/PAFCA guys can "HOP IT UP A TASTE" and go run with you guys.

Pro Comp is back! Not only is Top Eliminator West doing this (although its always been dragsters racing funny cars) but there will be a ProComp race in April at Woodburn and maybe one in May in Medford. Meanwhile back in Florida they raced Pro Comp at the Snowbirds although it was called a different name. There is also an association in Colorado but I haven't seen any race results from them.

There are a lot of blown dragsters and funny cars that can not keep up with the TOP ALCOHOL class financially and they have slipped through the cracks and are sitting at home. I have suggested to NHRA to bring back the Pro Comp class to supplement the top alcohol car turn out. They point to Top Dragster but sadly that class has mutated towards a super comp program to give it much of a blown alcohol appeal.

Pro Comp could really add some much need zing to the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as they need more heads up blown alcohol racing to get the fans back in the seats.
