LAS VEGAS (Nov. 1, 2008) – Jerry Toliver rocked the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car into No. 3 today for the Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He established a sensational elapsed time of 4.066 seconds at 307.37 mph in the final qualifying round under nearly ideal conditions, stunning the fans in the stands, as well as his competitors. Both numbers were his career-bests racing to 1000 feet and placed him in the top half of the field for the eighth time this season.

Toliver and the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge were quicker with each qualifying run this weekend. He started with a tire-smoking 9.371/78.75 (No. 18) and a 4.141/297.88 (No. 16) on Friday, followed by a 4.121/304.12 (No. 13) and a 4.066/307.37 (No. 3) on Saturday.

“We loaded the fuel tank up with Rockstar Energy Drink for that last run,” Toliver joked after his final pass. “We’ve been chipping away at it every run. The car’s been running good; we just keep getting behind the 8-ball and making it tough. But the Rockstar boys got their act together and we kept beating on it and it all worked out.

“We struggled after we didn’t get down the track on the first qualifying lap Friday. Something freak happened and it spun the tires for no reason. So we lost that lap, which got us in trouble because we had to be safe and get the car to go A to B Friday night instead of being able to get after it.

“Today we got after it a little bit and it responded and ran a 4.12, and the boys said it had more in it. So they leaned on it and the weather came to us on that last qualifying run and it hauled ass.

“We know we’ve got a hot rod that’ll run and we can beat anybody. But this field is so evenly matched its anybody's ball game on race day. We should do well; we’ll just see what happens.”

Toliver will face No. 14 qualifier Gary Densham in round one on Sunday.
