Todd Ready for Denver and the Western Swing

Denver CO - In just a few short days the “Western Swing” will begin as the NHRA Powerade tour heads out west for three important stops starting in Denver with the Mopar Mile-High Nationals before continuing west to Seattle and then south to Sonoma near the Bay Area. While all of the pro teams look at the three week “Western Swing” as an opportunity to move up in the points chase, they also realize that the three events all hundreds of miles a part in completely different geographic areas, will be challenging. Each team had better be prepared both physically and mentally.

For JR Todd, the swing is no big deal as he was a part of it the last couple of seasons as a crew member of Bob Gilbertson’s funny car team. Only now, he’s playing a much bigger role as the driver of the Skull Shine Top Fuel Dragster. And after a successful three week run through the Midwest where he advanced past the first round at each event, Todd is optimistic that the Skull team can pick up where it left off. “Based on how well the car is performing, I’m really looking forward to Denver. We only race there once a year and because of the high altitude all of the other teams are in the same boat, so we have a chance to do real well.” Todd said.

It can also be said that Mopar Mile-High Nationals is a crew chief’s race where the heat and high altitude slow the cars down. But the slower speeds don’t seem to bother the fans who always flock to this race as it’s one of the best attended events on the tour. “The fans in Denver really support this race and there’s rarely an empty seat in the house which is one of the reasons I like coming here.” Todd said. Qualifying for the Mopar Mile-High Nationals begins on Friday with TV coverage on ESPN2.
