Memphis, TN (9/28/08): After taking his career sixth victory last weekend in the Lone Star state, there was nothing more that J.R. Todd wanted to do than to continue his winning streak. He did by adding one more round until he faced Doug Herbert in the quarterfinals where he was narrowly defeated after running a time of 3.956 seconds, 300.00 mph to Herbert’s 3.954 seconds, 299.73 mph with the margin of victory of only two-thousandths of a second (.002) at the stripe.

“Well, it shouldn’t have been that close,” said a crestfallen Todd. “I had a bad light (reaction time), but the good news is the car is running like it should, so it should be a great end of the year for us. We’ve been struggling with that one thing – consistency. Now we have something for race day and that’s what it takes to win out here.”

In Todd’s first round of competition, he easily defeated David Grubnic after racing to the finish line first when the Lawrenceburg, Ind., driver ran an elapsed time of 3.912 seconds, 308.00 mph to Grubnic’s tire-spinning slower lap of 4.590 seconds, 213.70 mph.

After moving up two spots after last week’s victory in Texas, Todd has accumulated 863 markers after the Memphis race and occupies the No. 11 position in the NHRA POWERade points standings.
