If you are dealing with a sick pet, or have had to recently put one to sleep, you have my condolences. I recently lost a good buddy and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Sorry for your lost Tom, I have my buddy named Sunny (Dalmatian) best dog I have every had. He went to work with me everyday, customers come store just loved him. He is 16 yrs now and his time is catching up quick he's having some tough times but he is still happy when someone comes to see us so we are letting nature take its course long as he doesn't show signs of suffering. Dogs , they're amazing always happy when you come home.

Sorry to hear the news, Tom. We don't have any children, so our cats are our kids. Having to get the vet to give that last shot is always so hard, and it really doesn't get any easier each time it happens. They truly are family members.

Thanks guys. Frisky, my Siamese look alike, was a great cat and a good buddy over the last twelve years. I got him when he was four, so he lived a good sixteen years. I have had a range of emotions, from sadness, to guilt, to relief, and definitely second guessing myself - could I have done more?, could I have spotted the problem earlier? etc... But my buddy is at peace now and I am glad he is no longer suffering.

Those are the drawbacks of being owned by a pet, chances are better than not that you are going to outlive them. They bring so much joy while you have them, and it hurts so bad when you lose them. As long as you have given them a good home and returned the love that they have given you, you have done all that could be expected.

My condolences Tom. Since 2003 I have lost a dog, 3 cats and my wife. As painful as it was at the time of their demise, time does help. They all lived good lives, albeit short, but are at peace and no longer suffering. Life is for the living.

Same goes for you Rick, losing love ones are hard and like you said time heals some but we never forget.

So sorry for your loss. Our pets love us unconditionally and I know when you lose them they take a piece of our hearts with them.

I had to have my beloved Casey put down 3 years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her. In a bit of irony, it was done on April 15, tax day. One day I won't ever forget.

Thanks Cheryl. I had to give up a stray cat I took in five years ago. I let her have her kittens, fostered them, founds home for them, and then gave her up. I became quite attached to her in the span of 8 months and I still think of her daily. After twelve years of Frisky, I'll never forget him.

Thanks Rick. I'm getting better as time passes.
