BAYTOWN, Texas – It wasn’t the kind of performance Steve Torrence and the Capco Racing/Tuttle Motorsports Top Fuel team had in mind for Sunday’s Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway.
Torrence gave Spencer Massey a good first-round race until midway through the 1,000-foot run. That’s when his car’s tires lost traction. Massey stopped the timer in 3.8961 seconds at 302.69 mph while Torrence followed at 4.273 at 269.03 mph.
“It wasn’t a very good day or weekend for us,” said Torrence. “We had traction problems and really didn’t get one good run down the track.”
Torrence did keep his hold on 10th place (202 points) in NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series standings.
