[coverattach=1]Pomona, Friday: Del Worsham knew he'd have to step up his Checker, Schuck's, Kragen car's performance today, or his precarious slot in the 12th position would vanish. He did not, and it did. On a hot track, Worsham spun the tires short of the 330-foot mark and coast across with an aborted run, after having already been knocked from the top 12 by a pair of other cars. He now sits in the 8-car "also ran" group that will collectively fight for a spot in the 16-car field during Saturday's twin sessions.

"It wasn't easy out there, but it obviously could be done and we didn't do it," Worsham said. "We had it calmed down in the middle of the track, but you had to get it off the line strong without spinning them to even get to that part of the tune-up. That's like walking a tightrope and you have to get it right. It doesn't matter that if it would've made it another tenth it probably would've gone. That's like saying if you'd just hit that last ball over the fence it would've been a home run. It ran a lot better than it did yesterday, and we fixed some of those issues, so hopefully we'll be able to tune from there and make a couple good laps tomorrow. I can say this, we have a lot better graph to tune from after that run than we did after yesterday. That run was a mess, and this one just barely got into the spin out there, so we feel like we can adjust, even if it gets hotter. It's going to be tense, and we just have to get focused and get it done."
