ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - AMS Pro Mod Challenge presenting sponsor Tim Tindle celebrated his first win in Pro Mod competition as his crew chief Chuck Ford made it four wins in a row at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey. Tindle won the final against Jay Payne after bringing Josh Hernandez' winning streak to a screaming halt in a holeshot victory.
"I knew it was just a matter of time before we'd win one, and I'm so glad I was able to do it here," an ecstatic Tindle said. "Chuck Ford has won here four times in a row now, with four different drivers - and I really wanted to keep his streak going."
"It's a great feeling to finally get my hands on one of these Eagles [event trophy]. I've spent too much time in the winner's circle handing them out, now, they get to hand one to me - it's great," Tindle said.
After running consistent 5.90's all day, Jay Payne fouled in the final round against Tindle, handing him the win before the race even began. Not knowing Payne had redlit, Tindle powered down the track, running a solid 6.028/239.57.
Josh Hernandez lost his first round of the season in the semifinals against Tindle, bringing his record to 18 round wins and one loss for the season. Tindle left the line first and never looked back, delivering a 6.034/236.96 to defeat Hernandez' 6.032/243.59. It was the first time all weekend the Dr. Moon's Rage '68 Camaro didn't run in the five-second zone.
"It had to happen at some point," Hernandez said. "Tim got me on the tree, and they had that car really tuned up for the track. It was a close race, that's for sure - great for the fans."
In the other semifinal matchup, Jay Payne's Stratus was running like a bracket car, blistering the track with a 5.979/240.94 pass while R2B2 Motors-sponsored Raymond Commisso gave the fans a show as his Camaro got sideways and crossed the centerline. Commisso dropped the laundry and got it straightened out, avoiding hitting anything but the timing blocks in the middle of the track.
"It just got sideways and I had to slow it down. It was just a reaction to pull the chutes, and I got it turned around pretty quickly," Commisso
explained.
