ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Josh Hernandez led the pack in qualifying at the AMS Pro Mod Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc., and Jay Payne set the Old Bridge Township ET track record in during the first round of eliminations Saturday in the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals.

Hernandez claimed the No. 1 qualifying position with a track-record setting 5.950/243.55, only to have his ET mark eclipsed by Jay Payne with a blistering 5.947 in his first-round defeat of turbo-powered Jegs.com-sponsored entry of Troy Coughlin in round one.

"Howard [Moon, Hernandez' crew chief] has this car on a string and running like a bracket car. It's pretty amazing," Hernandez said.

Hernandez' numbers were 5.979/244.03; 5.950/244.03; and 5.951/243.37 in qualifying and 5.967/243.15 in his victory over Harold Laird.

After qualifying in the No. 4 position, Tim Tindle squared off against Joe Mulligan with Tindle taking the round win and advancing to the quarterfinals after crossing though the lights with a 6.012/238.26

Tindle said, "This car has been consistent all weekend. Chuck Ford and the guys are doing a great job getting her down the track. You can't ask for anything better than that. We just need to stay focused and give it our best. I feel that we have the equipment to get the job done and man it would be nice to win this weekend."

Tindle will face Tony Pontieri in the next round on Sunday with Tindle having lane choice over Pontieri.

Raymond Commisso blasted from the bottom of the pack on Friday into the No. 3 spot on Saturday with an Al Billes-tuned 6.003/243.02. With event-sponsor ProCare Rx and R2B2 Motors behind him, Commisso delivered a 6.063/220.12 to earn lane choice over teammate Doug Palmer who had advanced in a holeshot win over John Russo in round one.
