Time to land Target

Target is leaving Ganassi's Indycar team at the end of 2017 after 27 years, as they reevaluate their sports marketing platform. They are staying in NASCAR, so maybe with NHRA on an upswing, the time is right for Target to enter drag racing.

I suspect it has a lot to do with the new upper management at Target and their political leanings; NHRA is probably a lot less palatable to them than Indy is/was.

.02 guess, but i'm sure if you look at the demos, nascar attracts more women than nhra, which i would guess is still a
male dominated audience........men don't shop at target, women do.
now home depot, lowes, menards, ace hardware, etc., there i could see an argument......cross promotions with their brands.
example: bosch power tools/menards......husqvarna riding mowers/home depot......weber grills/lowes.
set it up somehow where nhra and racing team benefits......team gets some sponsor money, nhra gets some sponsor money,
sponsors get hospitality with racers and display in midway/vending area.

NASCAR attracts more women then NHRA? I would like to see numbers on that. Seems to me since we have women racing and winning in all classes we should have the advantage in female fans.

Steve Johnson and Pat Dakin already sport that brand.
And Clint Thompson.

Target is out after this year in IndyCar, and 2017 will be their last in NASCAR. They are "streamlining" their marketing practices, which usually means slashing the budget, which usually means the most expensive things go first, like racecar sponsorships. I doubt they are going to bail on one series just to jump on board with another, particularly when their goal is to reduce capital expenditures.

Half the Target stores in Vegas have closed in the last couple of years, so they aren't only dying north of the border.

I would believe that NASCAR has a larger female base (% overall) than NHRA. I don't think the fact that NHRA has competitive women is a huge edge. It works in some cases. But NASCAR has had a female base for ever and they are extremely driver loyal.

Target has a cavernous store at the intersection of I-4 and US-27 in central Florida. NEVER anybody in it. It's like a giant echo chamber. :(

I think you're correct. They seem to be more concerned with pandering to every conceivable 'politically correct' notion than other stores. The CEO was quoted as saying their sales downturn was in part "due to (weather)" i.e. rain allegedly caused by global warming. Seriously? If that's where they are coming from, motorsports in general (NHRA, NASCAR, you name it) is probably viewed as bad for the earth.

But from a purely business perspective, with slipping sales the ROI from motorsports advertising probably doesn't make sense.

I believe what Jay meant "by drink the Kool-Aid" was the the original post that mentioned Trump was meant as a joke
(which is how I took it based on the emoticon that followed the words), but the post was taken seriously instead.

Allright girls, this ain't about politics. :(
EVERYTHING is about politics! All I can say is that since 2008 here in Las Vegas car counts have dropped at least 60-65% in Pro and Super Pro. PLUS the once thriving PSCA Pacific Street Car Racing Association car counts dropped drastically. They had to find venues elsewhere around the country. It Is now Premiere St. Car Racing Assn. That is because the economy has gone to crap. Politics don't belong here? OKAY, We all know there is politics in drag racing isn't
there? I mentioned no names, just facts as they affected MY racing. BTW the US debt has DOUBLED.
