[coverattach=1]Granbury, Texas (August 28, 2009) - From the lows of losing a loved one to the highs of winning his first National Guard American Drag Racing League event, the husband and wife race team of Thomas and Rebecca Myers experienced it all at last week. “Tom Slick” captured the ADRL Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags III Pro Nitrous title Saturday to cap an emotion-filled three days that started with the passing of his grandfather on Thursday.

A jubilant Myers dedicated the win to his late grandfather, Donald Hailey, and his mother, Donna Myers, in victory lane. “It was such an emotional time,” Myers said. “I just wish Donald could have been there to experience it."

“I have so many people to thank for helping me get that first trophy,” he added. “Rebecca is doing a great job as crew chief and the help we have been receiving lately from chassis specialist Andy McCoy is making a big difference in our performance. I couldn’t have done it without the help of Andy and his family or the support of the Safety-Kleen Corporation, Shorty Miller and Performance Mechanical, David Spainhour at Midco Demolition Tools, Jaspers Engines and J.A. Crane Company.”

Even knowing her father’s passing was imminent, Donna urged her son to travel to Ohio and race because she knew that’s what her ill father would have wanted. Myers learned of his grandfather’s death while at the event.

With a heavy heart and renewed determination, Myers qualified his ’63 Corvette last in the 16-car field but picked off each of his opponents in eliminations, including seven-time ADRL winner Shannon “Iceman” Jenkins in the finals. Myers moved up to 10th in the season points with the win.

“It was such an emotional weekend,” Myers said. “I am looking forward to building on that success and I’m really excited about the future. I can’t wait to get my hands on my new Andy McCoy Duster this fall.”

Andy McCoy Race Cars is finishing up one of its signature 1970 Plymouth Duster-bodied cars for Myers who will campaign it during the 2010 season. It is one of several Dusters AMRC is currently building.
