DRO just reported The Shoe paid the Nitro Fine.:(
...something to do with the nhra NOT paying out the Championship Bonuses until it WAS paid!!!...

Bad form NHRA.

Good for Don sticking to his principles as long as he has ... but it is now just a case of simple math:

400K Championship bonus - 100K fine = +300K more than he had before the weekend started.

U Betcha its extortion
what happened to innocent until proven guilty.
If/when the Don wins his appeal will he get his $100,000 back with interest?

I think the title pays a half mil now. I really don't know if Shoe broke any laws or NHRA rules, but geeez, 100 grand is really excessive, especially the way that they made a huge story out of it. I mean, here's a guy, love him or hate him, who was gone for decades, comes back to be the biggest team owner in the sport, employing lots of people, buying tons of equipment, bringing in new sponsors, and they actually glorified the fact they were imposing the largest fine in NHRA history upon him. IMO, if there needed to be a fine, it could have been for much less and without all the fanfare.

It sure would have eased the "pain" if NHRA would have allowed Schumacher to pay the penalty to DRAW instead of going to their piggy bank. It would have been a win win situation.

Well said--you just dont do this to a guy who has done all for this sport that he has done-- regardless if you like him or not

I still say that Don should of paid it in pennies and had V. Gaines deliver it to NHRA's door step with a note saying....

" Hey Compton, start counting and just let me know if it's short."

I totally agree. What a terrible message to send to NHRA's biggest investor. Are they trying to run him off? I doubt that he really needs all the hassle that seems to come his way. He's been generous in providing rides for drivers (Justin Humphries, Richie Stevens, Gene Wilson, etc.) and bringing sponsors and dollars that were never ours. How about the NAPA deal, or the Brut deal? Those two companies invested big money in TV advertising buys that actually promoted drag racing. That has been huge for our sport.

More proof, I believe, that the NRHA is on it's way out. If "The Don" left, they couldn't fill a single category!

Personally, i would love to see him go to the ANRA or something. Anything but NHRA.

Compton needs to be 'checked' hard core.

The National Dragster from a couple weeks ago reported that the fine was upheld and said that it had been paid - and that was a couple weeks ago. It was in the front of the dragster, I think in bits from the pits.......

DSR Broke the rules.
They got caught.
They got fined.
They appealed.
The appeal was denied.
They paid the fine.

What part of this is NHRA's fault?

I was speeding.
I got caught.
I got a ticket.
I went to court.
I was found guilty.
I paid the fine.

I will now blame the cops.

Are you all that stupid?

Alan

Getting back to "THE RULE" Why is it wrong to have different nitro in your pit.?

nhra did NOT find it in the tank. So no problem.

They all have beer in their pit, does that mean the driver is drunk??

NHRA makes up the rules as they see fit...

That's what sanctioning bodies do. The rule that was broken was quite clear in the rule book. Not like they "hid" it.

My only complaint about this whole affair (Alan) was the way in which it was handled. Praise in public, criticize in private.

This comment right here is why Forums start to lose all their glory and just become a good ol fashioned beat down. Totally unproffessional way to express your opinion Alan.

Hard to argue with your logic Alan. We live in a society that shuns personal responsibility. Better living through denial. I would like to believe we all have more important things to do than disect this matter between DSR and NHRA. I have not always agreed with decisions NHRA has made but they continue to be "the best game in town". NHRA drag racing has given me the opportunity to represent some great companies and their people at an alcohol level - opportunities I would not have had without this sanctioning body. They have the right to make the rules and enforce them as they see fit, just as the NFL, MLB, the NBA and other leagues do.

Except that the rulebook is quite clear on the subject. Page 64, Section 1:6. To wit:

Only nitromethane from an NHRA-accepted supplier may be brought on site or used on site at any NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series event.

Further:

Fuel, whether in the vehicle or otherwise, as well as transporters and pit areas, will be checked for compliance with this rule as deemed appropriate by NHRA.

The fuel was not from an approved supplier, it was found in a transporter at a national event. Pretty clear.

Alan, you forget that there are folks here who think that DSR can do no wrong and NHRA can do no right!!!

Paul; if the rule is that you can only use brand X, why in the world would you have brand Y on hand?

I'm sorry Alan, I was a cop for 29 yrs, and I equate that to you/anyone going 37mph in a 35 zone... You get stopped & the "Cop" takes you out of the car uses the Tazer and handcuffs you.. Then brings you to HQ and puts a $50,000 bond on you....

"Hey You DID BREAK THE LAW you make bail, and go to court... and the judge finds you guilty, and decides your bail $$ is just about right for the fine.. 37 in a 35 zone... :(

Seems about the same as NHRA did to DS... does a kid with 1 joint get the same punishment as John Gotti....
