Why is Pete Townshend of The Who at 79th, Brian May of Queen at 81st & Steve Vai at 57th - who decided on this Iist?

What do you think?

Angus Young 88th!!!-not
Mick Mars 100-? James Taylor maybe but Mick Mars?
I hope they weren't going in any order if they are
thats on messed up list.

what exactly do they mean by wildest ??

surely this cant be a list of the best guitarist since they dont even have David Gilmour (sp) of Pink Floyd listed !!

'Wildest guitarist' would not just be judged on techical ability, hence most of the top ten are well known for drink and drug intake, and with the exception of Van Halen, I wouldn't rate his playing skills as worthy of a top 10 position.

On the other hand Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen are more noted for their extreme technical skill, not getting pissed and smashing stuff up, and therefore feature low on the list.

I have to say a few things. First of all, it is a very nice list. They really pulled out some gems like Dave Urich. They really went deep. But let's be realistic. The order is all wrong, so lets just say it is a list, not an order. In no earth anywhere is James Taylor wilder than Zak Wylde.
But what about Joe Satriani? Don't you think one of the best selling solo guitarists of all time. Also the guitar teacher of Vai, and other of his students like Kirk Hammett of Metallica? Wild? YES! Absent from this list? YES!
How about Marty Friedman? David Gilmour isn't the wildest. But can you have a guitar list without him?
For the love of six strings, how about Nuno? The Guitar center used his second album in every one of their commercials for 15 years! Jason Becker? Joe Smith and don't forget Nigel Tufnel!
But all in all, they should have taken the word wild out and just put a list of awesome guitarists. Some of those names make me really reminisce.

I think if you asked the under 25 crowd who they're Guitar heros are, they'll say Dimebag Darrell or some other new Rocker. Classic Rock is dying fast, at least the number of Classic Rock Radio stations anyway. Most of my friends who used to be rockers are now listening to Country.

I hate these lists. Explain "wild". Zakk Wylde is the premiere "metal" guitarist right now. No Steve Morse? Jake E. Lee? Lita Ford? Jennifer Batten? Elvis Presley? Stevie Stevens? Jason Becker???? Instead of calling the 100 wildest.... why not just make it "people we think are pretty cool"..... and let it be an endless list so everyone can be happy.

"The 100 Wildest Guitarists Ever" with Pete at 79 can only be "just a list". How many guitars would probably have wished to be bought by anyone else to avoid being destroyed on stage.

Chris, you are 100% dead on... The amount of "Name" guitarists missing could make up another Top 100 list on its own.. And then there are the unsigned guitar gods that we may see finally get their dues soon (Sean Tarr, Pocket, Evan Christian to name a few..).

These lists do nothing but show how many names the author knows, or who they are trying to suck up to (kinda like those "Most Beautiful" lists..)

Ted Nugent didn't make the Top Ten!?!?!?

It's quite obvious that the person/s who made up this list are a bunch of 20-somethings that have never even seen 3/4 of the people on that list!!

I love Stevie Ray Vaughn... but #3 Wildest Guitarist of all time! Awesome yes, wild no! And Eddie Van Halen... once again, awesome-yes, wild-no!

Randy Rhoades at #67...

that list is joke!!!!

I totally agree however I'm 43 and have been a huge Pantera fan since "Cowboys from Hell" was released in 90'. I admit that I'm probably in the minority for my age group. :D

I think Donna (from the Donnas) is wild. Most people don't expect a cute 20-something girl to rip out old school riffs influenced by the likes of AC/DC, KISS, Sabbath, Queen, Zepplin, etc, etc.
