Jim Taylor has renewed the lease of Champion Raceway in Medford.

I get excited about this because this is just one of two tracks I can run on in my own home state.

Rich, that's good news but it's a shame that most of the Portland guys won't go South of Woodburn and very few of the Sacto guys will go North. Our dealings with Jim have been good and he treats everybody fair and I think he's a good guy.

Interesting Rich. I just got a note from the Parks Dept telling me they are in "negotiations" with Jim. Doesn't sound like anything has been signed as yet. Hopefully, they will force him to at least have an office and presence in the area. He won't run any decent spectator races so I really don't understand why he wants the track again. Rumor has it he doesn't even want a points meet. He's turned his back on most of the local racers who could have helped him, and used up the rest. I'm not impressed!

Since the County did a very poor job of getting the word out on the RFP, some folks were late in finding out about it. There are a couple of very capable parties who would love to have the track, but didn't know about it in time.

I called Jim last night and he confirmed that he has renewed the lease and he asked that I pass on the word to Curt Clevenger. I asked him if I could post the news on my site and he said yes. I wouldn't do it otherwise.

He will have some spectator races. The Nitro Summerfest is a spectator race and that's going to still happen and he's going to have the TEW cars on July 3rd and I'm sure he will have a nostalgia event. He's still finishing up the schedule. It's a tough deal in these smaller markets and i give Jim a lot of credit for doing all he can to make it happen.

It may not be to the scale of some tracks but as you know a lot of tracks have just gone to bracket races which was I feared was in store for Medford. Even we are to loud to run in Portland and got the boot there so we have lost that track all together.

The TEW cars can run there at three events but at this time I think TEW will be there once this year. I don't know what will happen to the points meet as Spokane will likely get it but that's just a hunch.

What's a TEW? When I say "spectator" race, I'm talking about nostalgia T/F or F/C, fuel match races....things the spectators rarely see in our area. Taylor has, so far, refused to run fuel cars of any sort. And I don't count Fuel Harleys at 'fuel cars'.

I'm glad you guys like him. Very few of the racers around here do as evidenced by the number of cars that have been sold, parked or raced other places.

TEW is Top Eliminator West. It's a group of six second blown alcohol dragsters and funny cars. I know what you mean about the nitro cars but he had a fuel alterd and nitro Harley race the last few years and Woodburn hasn't had AA Funny cars until this last September. Jim might have some nitro cars this year for the Summerfest now that the nostalgia nitro cars are once again plentiful. I like Jim because he and his wife always treats us well. The fans are also great down there.

Also, we have tried to get match racing dates lined up for a few blown alcohol cars at several tracks and Jim has been one of the only guys open to having us so it's always a pleasure to race in Medford.

I just read the release at DRC that Medford gets the final LODRS event on Sept 25-26.

DragRaceCentral

GLENDORA, Calif. --

Champion Raceway, Medford, Ore., will once again host the final event in the 2010 NHRA
Northwest Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The event is the fifth of five in the division and is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday,

September 25 and 26. The track will also host a test and tune on Friday, September 24. NHRA and track officials plan to release a complete schedule in the coming weeks.

The event will include eleven classes of racers including the 260 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars as well as wheel standing Super Stocks, the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson and the division's Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes.

The track has been hosting the event continuously since 2000 marking this the 10th year in a row for the event. 2009 event winners included

local racer Brian Hough of Junction City, Ore., in Top Alcohol Funny Car and Vancouver, Wash., racer Doug Hegge in Top Alcohol Dragster. Both Hough and Hegge along with hundreds of competitors are expected to return for this year's event.

Interesting that it's Sat/Sun, as that Medford race has always been a Fri/Sat race. But glad to see another D6 divisional.

Now we just need to see the plan for the divisional at Spokane (for July?).
