Stivers hoping to get lucky in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia (April 23, 2008) - Successful drag racing requires a flawless combination of man and machine as well as a small amount of luck. Pro Modified driver Rick Stivers said he knows he can control the "man" part and will rely on Team owner Tim Tindle and crew chief Mike Janis to handle the "machine" this weekend as Stivers competes in the third of ten events in the JEGS ProMod Challenge at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals outside of metro Atlanta.

"Tim and Mike have got 'the Dozer' [Stivers' '67 Mustang Pro Mod] ready to go, but the luck is outside of our control," Stivers said with a laugh.

In his two outings thus far this season, Stivers has qualified well but exited first round at both events.

"Sometimes a part breaks or you get a lane that's difficult to get traction - that's the kind of luck you don't want. This weekend, I'm all ready for the good luck to happen. It's my turn," Stivers said.

Confident of the power of the car and his abilities behind the wheel, the Lexington, Ky.-resident said he's anxious to get on the track.

"The team has been doing a lot of testing, and I know Tim is personally involved with the entire operation, and he's a first-class player all the way.

"Ultimately, my goal for the weekend is to keep it in the grove on every pass, make four rounds on in eliminations and meet up with Tim in the finals. Step by step, one lap at a time," he said.

Qualifying is scheduled for 1:30 and 5 p.m. Friday, and a final session at 11:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Eliminations begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon and conclude Sunday.
