TOPEKA, Kan. – Greg Stanfield’s first-round race Sunday against Vincent Nobile is important despite the fact this is the seventh of 22 NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series events.
Stanfield came into the Summer Nationals tied with Nobile for fourth in points (420), and eager to make up for the points he missed out on after a rare first-round loss last week at Atlanta. He does have lane choice on the strength of Friday night’s 6.676-second run at 205.26 mph at Heartland Park Topeka. It was the eighth-quickest time and one spot ahead of Nobile’s 6.680, 206.42.
“We did some parts testing (Saturday),” said the driver of the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP. “Now we’ll the car ready and see if we can go win the race.”
